WOW: Trump mistakes victim for his wife in r*pe deposition
Donald Trump's deposition video regarding the defamation and rape trial brought by writer E. Jean Carroll has been released. In the video, Trump claims that he did not sexually assault Carroll, not because he does not sexually assault women, but because she is not his type. However, when given a picture of Carroll during the deposition, Trump actually mistook her for his ex-wife, Marla Maples, suggesting that she might be his type after all. Trump also denied any knowledge of the timeline of the infamous Access Hollywood tape and played dumb about when he was married and engaged. He stated that it was true for stars that they could grab women, but he meant it from the perspective of someone who knows history. Trump then responded “I don't know” to the questions: "Am I correct that you were engaged to your current wife sometime in 2004? and “Am I correct that you married your current wife in January 2005?” It remains to be seen what the outcome of this civil case is, but so far it’s not looking great for the former president.
DeSantis can't handle it, massively triggered at his own press conference
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis clearly lacks the readiness to handle a national political campaign against Donald Trump. This was made evident during a recent press conference when DeSantis cut off a reporter asking him about his anti-trans policies and went on to speak against the idea of gender-affirming healthcare for teenagers, calling it “mutilation.” During the event, DeSantis also expressed uncertainty about whether he would run in the 2024 presidential election, saying he would make a decision “relatively soon.” All of these appearances demonstrate that DeSantis lacks the charisma and mental fortitude to win a Republican primary. This would likely become more and more clear as a prolonged and contentious campaign against Trump goes on. There’s also the risk that DeSantis gets so enmeshed in the culture war and focused on his anti-woke crusade, that it hurts him in the general election, assuming he is able to catch up to the massive lead Trump has in the polls and win himself the Republican nomination.
From over the weekend:
Rudy Giuliani admits how he suppressed the Hispanic vote
Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani has sparked controversy after seemingly bragging about suppressing the Hispanic vote during his 1993 mayoral election. Giuliani appeared on Steve Bannon's show and explained how they distributed cards in Hispanic neighborhoods that read, “if you come to vote, make sure you have your green card because INS are picking up illegals.” Giuliani won the mayoral election by a margin of 50,000 votes, becoming the first Republican elected mayor of New York City since 1965. After the election, the Clinton Civil Rights Division investigated Giuliani for violating civil rights. Giuliani defended his actions, arguing that they prevented ineligible voters from casting their ballots. While undocumented immigrants cannot legally vote, the use of scare tactics at polling places may have deterred eligible voters, creating a hostile environment. The implications of Giuliani's admission are concerning and deserve further scrutiny.
From over the weekend:
Are they coming for the LGBT teachers?
Conservative attacks on LGBT teachers are becoming a real possibility, as their rhetoric of protecting children from "LGBT people" continues. This could result in teachers being screened, especially since many schools already employ LGBT staff. The attacks would be baseless and discriminatory, seeking to stigmatize and marginalize individuals. The framing of danger to children and parents’ rights is already being used to justify such attacks, and laws banning the word "gay" are just one example. Although it's uncertain if these attacks will become more widespread, they are likely to happen at a local level. As right-wing extremism increases on social issues, targeting LGBT teachers could be their next cultural battleground.
