Dripping wet Trump declares himself Nelson Mandela at insane speech
Former President Donald Trump delivered a speech in New Hampshire and made a number of outlandish statements during the event. Trump likened himself to Nelson Mandela, a comparison that raised criticism given the significant differences between their actions and motivations. He also rambled about the abbreviation “U.S.” and its connection to "us," making a vague point that lacked substance. Trump's statements were largely incoherent, and if President Biden had made similar remarks, right-wing media would have used them to raise concerns about his cognitive state. Additionally, Trump mixed up Hungarian leader Viktor Orban with the leader of Turkey, further fueling perceptions of his lack of knowledge. He also proposed implementing ideological screening for immigrants, a suggestion that some argue could be considered unconstitutional due to potential violations of First Amendment rights. Overall, the speech contained a number of erratic and incoherent statements that should be seen as unbecoming of someone who was and hopes to once again become president.
Candace Owens interviewed by Bill Maher, goes horribly wrong
Candace Owens appeared on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast and the two delved into several contentious topics. Their dialogue kicked off with a discussion on climate change, with Owens expressing skepticism about its validity, while Maher vehemently defended its existence. They then pivoted to the moon landing, where Owens cast doubt on its authenticity, prompting Maher to vigorously defend it as a historical fact. The discourse moved on to vaccine skepticism, with Owens voicing concerns about the number of vaccines administered to children, to which Maher responded by emphasizing the life-saving role of vaccines while stressing they should be seen as only one of many medical tools. They wrapped up the discussion with a heated debate regarding the January 6th Capitol riot, where Owens minimized the event's gravity, and Maher underscored its significance as part of Donald Trump's broader efforts to deny the 2020 election results. Overall, the podcast featured Candace Owens saying a number of ridiculous things, with Bill Maher correcting her while also saying some ridiculous things of his own.
From yesterday’s show:
Trump lawyer GUILTY, Trump lies she was "never" his lawyer
Former Trump lawyer Sidney Powell has pleaded guilty in her Georgia criminal case and it has opened up the possibility of her testifying against Donald Trump during his trial. As part of the plea agreement, Powell has pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor counts and she has received six years of probation, a $6,000 fine, and must write an apology letter to the people of Georiga. In response, Trump is now denying that she was ever his lawyer and downplaying her role in his legal team, strategically distancing himself from Powell, even though she was a prominent figure in his post-election legal efforts. This denial contradicts Trump’s previous statements and the way Powell was presented as part of his legal team during press conferences and in Trump's tweets. With multiple lawyers potentially testifying against him, Trump's effort to disassociate himself from Powell may not ultimately do him any good.
From yesterday’s show:
Republicans in crisis, now NINE candidates for Speaker
The Republican Party is embroiled in chaos as they struggle to elect a new Speaker of the House, with the latest vote yielding no clear winner. The trouble began when a faction of eight Republican House members decided to oust Kevin McCarthy as speaker, joining forces with Democrats in a removal vote. Several candidates have emerged during this tumultuous process, including Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan, but none have gained enough support to secure the position. Jim Jordan's bids for the speakership have been repeatedly rebuffed by his fellow Republicans, with each subsequent vote distancing him further from the role. The latest update is that nine Republicans have entered the race: Tom Emmer, Mike Johnson, Kevin Hern, Byron Donalds, Pete Sessions, Jack Bergman, Austin Scott, Daniel Musa, and Gary Palmer. On the Democratic side, Hakeem Jeffries is the favored choice for Speaker, reflecting the party's unity in stark contrast to the Republican turmoil. However, Democrats remain in the House minority, making Jeffries' election impossible without Republican support.
