Trump Telling People He'll Be Reinstated As President by August
The New York Times' Maggie Haberman is now reporting that Donald Trump is telling people he will be reinstated as president by August. The context here is that over the weekend Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser, said there should be a coup in the US like what happened in Myanmar a few months ago. MyPillow guy Mike Lindell has been saying for weeks now that August is around the time when Trump will return to power. More and more QAnon people are getting attached to this timeline now. Haberman tweeted yesterday that, “Trump has been telling a number of people he’s in contact with that he expects he will get reinstated by August (no that isn’t how it works but simply sharing the information).” She went on to say that, “it isn’t happening in a vacuum. It is happening as he faced the possibility of an indictment from the Manhattan DA.”
The idea that a Myanmar-style coup could happen in the US has been floating around QAnon and other conspiratorial circles for a few months now. It’s easy to laugh these people off as delusional, and they certainly are, but the events of January 6th show us that there could be more serious threats to watch out for. Maybe there could be another flare up after the August return to power doesn’t happen. Or perhaps after this deadline passes and Biden is still president, these committed Trumpists will simply move on to arguing that the 45th president will be returning at some later time. Eventually after a year or two more of doing this, they’ll give up on the idea, but at that time, Trump will likely be ready to launch his third run for president and they’ll settle for him taking office in January of 2025.
COVID Has Made People INSANE
Over a year into the coronavirus pandemic, there seems to be a COVID-induced psychosis that is plaguing this country and some other parts of the world. As one TDPS viewer named Wade wrote, "as more and more people attend events and begin to travel, there is an increasing level of violence and frustration that, on the surface, might seem to be a result of not having to practice decorum and civility in similar situations for the past year due to the pandemic.” We’re seeing this unfold in a number of ways: The number of unruly passengers on airplanes being reported to the FAA has been increasing dramatically as air travel has resumed. Much of it is related to or triggered by masks (both people wearing and not wearing masks). Last weekend, an unruly Southwest passenger punched out a flight attendant’s teeth. American Airlines has announced that they will be suspending alcohol service, because alcohol consumption can lead to this type of atypical behavior.
In the world of sports, fans have been even more disrespectful than usual after being allowed back into the venues. The NBA teams the 76ers, Knicks, and Jazz have all had to ban fans following playoff game incidents involving players. Five NBA venues have banned fans for disrespectful behavior during playoff games and fans ran onto the court after a recent playoff win by the Washington Wizards. And this is not just limited to the US. In Glasgow, Scotland, thousands of fans defied COVID-19 warnings against large gatherings to go to George Square and celebrate the Rangers winning their first Scottish Premiership championship since 2011. Attendees littered the square with hundreds of broken bottles, plastic bags, and more. Some of this behavior could be a result of people who were furious about the pandemic and shutdowns. Others may be upset about returning to the way things were, and the stresses that come with commuting and interacting with people. This trend of violence and unruliness could very well continue over the next few months, as the pandemic effectively starts coming to an end.
From yesterday’s show:
Republicans WON'T STOP Calling for Violence
There have now been several Republican calls for violence over the past few weeks from highly influential figures. Tucker Carlson, for example, said that it might be time for a “real insurrection” over Biden’s immigration policies. Days ago, beleaguered GOP Congressman Matt Gaetz said that the 2nd Amendment may be the answer to the right’s social media censorship troubles. Lastly, Michael Flynn, who was Trump’s national security adviser, said at a QAnon conference over the weekend that a military coup like what happened in Myanmar should happen here in the United States. This isn’t just fired up rhetoric, these are actual calls for violence from prominent right-wing figures. The right continues to push and prod and encourage their people towards launching a civil war. Much of this has to do with them being upset over losing the 2020 election and realizing that there’s nothing they can do about it. That’s why some on the right are brainstorming tactics like launching a “real insurrection,” using the 2nd Amendment, or engaging in a military coup.
