Confused, thirsty Trump event goes horribly wrong
Donald Trump spoke and answered questions at an event hosted by Club 45, a corporation set up to help reelect him. The event was attended by delusional sycophants who asked Trump questions regarding everything from foreign policy to his supposed sacrifice for the country. Trump struggled to answer some of the questions, even those asked by children, and he was visibly awkward while drinking water. At one point, the former president acknowledged his support for breaking up AT&T because its subsidiary DirecTV stopped airing Newsmax. This of course isn’t exactly the light touch of regulation that conservatives tend to want, but on this issue, they have found some other principle to prioritize. Also during the appearance, Trump alluded to other candidates in the race running to be his vice president, since they can’t seem to garner more than a few percentage points in the polls. It’s getting rarer and rarer to see Trump in this question-and-answer format, but maybe he’s bringing it back as a way to spice up his lackluster campaign.
George Santos brutally collapses during Piers Morgan interview
Piers Morgan confronted Republican Congressman George Santos about the long list of lies he’s told and his refusal to step down from office. As happened in the interview, Santos continues to take the strategy of saying he was joking about being “Jew-ish” when confronted about his false claims of Jewish heritage. However, Piers Morgan pointed out the absurdity of this claim and the offensive nature of his lies. Later, Santos admitted that he had lied about his background because he believed it would help him be accepted by the Republican Party. Clearly, Santos has received some media training in recent weeks, since he’s been better able to respond to interviewers and whitewash what he did as merely résumé exaggeration. Santos has likely weathered the storm enough to be able to keep his job in Congress until his constituents inevitably vote him out of office in two years.
From yesterday’s show:
Fox News DESTROYED by leaked texts, they were lying all along
Leaked text messages revealed late last week confirm that some Fox News hosts, including Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, and Laura Ingraham, were aware that Donald Trump's claims of election fraud in the 2020 election were baseless and they continued to support them publicly. The revelations come from a lawsuit involving Dominion Voting Systems, which is suing Fox News for spreading conspiracy theories about the company's role in non-existent fraud in the 2020 election. The text messages reveal that Carlson and Ingraham privately thought that Trump's lawyers, Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani, were lying, yet they continued to promote their unfounded claims on air. If these people had any semblance of journalistic integrity, they would not have entertained these election fraud conspiracy theories. However, Fox felt it more important to placate their audience and remain aligned with Donald Trump who was attempting at the time to end democracy in the United States.
From yesterday’s show:
OH NO: Republicans will try to make Trump sign a loyalty pledge
The Republican National Committee is planning on requiring its presidential primary candidates to sign a pledge of loyalty to support the party's eventual nominee. This appears specifically intended to ensure Donald Trump's support for Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, or whomever the nominee ends up being if it’s not him. Clearly, Republicans are worried about Trump running as an independent candidate if he doesn’t get the GOP nod, as that would split the Republican vote and drastically increase the chances of a Democratic win. Trump may not want to sign the pledge to maintain leverage and power. He also could sign the pledge and then not abide by it if he does indeed lose, claiming it doesn’t count anymore due to voter fraud or whatever other bogus reason. Overall, the loyalty pledge sounds like it will do nothing to control Trump as the former president is going to do whatever he wants if he loses the primary.
