Republican Senator Admits Trump Lost, Trump LOSES IT
Republican Senator Mike Rounds of South Dakota said something completely uncontroversial on ABC’s “This Week” over the weekend, but it’s getting him in a world of trouble with Trump supporters, some of whom make up his voter base. Rounds told George Stephanopoulos that the 2020 election was legitimate and that Joe Biden simply won and Donald Trump simply lost. The senator said, “as a part of our due diligence, we looked at over sixty different accusations made in multiple states. While there were some irregularities, there were none of the irregularities which would have risen to the point where they would have changed the vote outcome in a single state. The election was fair, as fair as we’ve seen. We simply did not win the election as Republicans for the presidency.” Trump put out a statement lambasting Rounds saying things like “is he crazy or just stupid?” and “I will never endorse this jerk again.” This response from Trump is exactly why so many Republicans are unwilling to say what they all know to be true about the 2020 election.
Sarah Palin Incoherent: Liberals Want to "Pound, Pound, Pound"
Sarah Palin, former Alaska Governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, is piling on the attacks against Alexandria Ocasio Cortez for getting COVID on her recent trip to Miami, Florida. One of the things AOC has been getting flack for is saying that Republicans who criticize her are jealous of her boyfriend and want to date her. Palin suggested this is part of liberals’ and socialists’ obsession with gender and sex. She said on Fox News, “the liberals — not the conservatives — are the ones who pound, pound, pound after that. And obviously it’s a tactic so that she doesn’t have to be held accountable.” This was among the most coherent parts of her Fox appearance with much of the rest of it being a word salad of explanations about why what AOC did was wrong. Conservatives in recent days have had a hard time explaining what exactly AOC was being hypocritical about by going to Florida and Sarah Palin brought us no closer to understanding what that was.
From yesterday’s show:
Ted Cruz Humiliated by Tucker Carlson on Live TV
Ted Cruz angered many right-wingers when he recently referred to those who attacked police officers on January 6, 2021 as “terrorists.” This led the Texas senator to go on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show to apologize for his “sloppy phrasing.” Carlson, however, wasn’t buying it and made Cruz grovel and ask for forgiveness over the mistake. Tucker said, “you called this a terror attack when by no definition was it a terror attack. That’s a lie. You told that lie on purpose and I’m wondering why you did.” Cruz called his words “sloppy” and “dumb” before Carlson cut him off saying, “I don’t buy that.” Ted did his best to focus on the rioters who attacked Capitol police officers and said he had a history of referring to people who target cops as “terrorists.” Carlson followed up by saying, “if someone assaults a cop, he should be charged and go to jail. I couldn’t agree more. We have said that for years. But that person’s still not a terrorist.” Cruz continued trying to calm the situation down but to no avail. This may make him think twice before criticizing the Trump rioters and by extension Donald Trump himself in the future.
From yesterday’s show:
Trump Rioters Getting Lighter Sentences Than Recommended
There has been a narrative pushed by the far right regarding the more than 700 Trump rioters who have been charged for their roles in the Capitol attacks. Some argue that the insurrectionists are being over-prosecuted and held in facilities with poor conditions. It turns out that in two-thirds of the cases where a verdict and sentence has been handed down, the judges have given a lighter sentence than what was recommended by the prosecution. Of the 74 sentencings so far, 49 of them have been below government recommendations. In eight cases where prosecutors asked for jail time, the judges granted probation. The total breakdown of the 74 sentencings are 35 getting jail or prison time, 14 given home detention, and 25 getting away with just probation. Republican lawmakers like Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, and Lauren Boebert have been making a big stink out of the supposed authoritarian treatment of these Trump rioters, but it turns out that many are being let off easy.
