DeSantis rapidly making Florida a right wing hellscape
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is turning his state into a right-wing hellscape. DeSantis has signed several controversial bills lately, including a six-week abortion ban that restricts women's reproductive rights and imposes stringent requirements for exceptions. DeSantis also eliminated concealed weapons permits, allowing individuals to carry firearms without proper training, raising concerns about public safety. His actions targeting the LGBTQ+ community have included banning gender-affirming care for trans youth, restricting drag shows, and expanding the "Don't Say Gay" law. Furthermore, DeSantis blocked an African-American studies class and prohibited vaccine mandates, drawing criticism for whitewashing history and undermining public health efforts. Clearly, DeSantis is prioritizing personal political gain over the well-being of the people of his state. It remains to be seen how these efforts will affect DeSantis if and when he makes his presidential announcement.
Marjorie Taylor Greene wildly claims "Antifa killed a cop"
Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has come under fire for spreading false claims about Antifa killing a police officer. During a recent hearing, Greene falsely stated that Antifa was responsible for the death of a cop, but the reality is that police officers shot and killed Manuel Teran, an environmental activist opposing a police training facility in Atlanta. No police officer was killed in the incident. Greene's misleading statements highlight the dangerous nature of spreading false information and potentially inciting violence. It's crucial to recognize that the majority of political violence in the United States stems from right-wing extremism, despite attempts to fabricate narratives suggesting otherwise. Greene's falsehoods not only undermine the truth but also contribute to the promotion of an extremist agenda. The hope is that in 2024, such individuals and their ideologies will be relegated to the fringes of American politics and these far right-wing representatives get voted out of office.
From yesterday’s show:
LOL: Ron DeSantis' endorsements lose, Trump explodes
Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis recently suffered political setbacks when two candidates he endorsed lost their respective races. Former President Donald Trump, who is eyeing a potential future presidential bid, wasted no time capitalizing on DeSantis's misfortune. DeSantis endorsed former U.N. Ambassador Kelly Craft in the Kentucky Republican gubernatorial primary, but she ultimately lost to Attorney General Daniel Cameron, who had Trump's backing. DeSantis also endorsed Daniel Davis in the Jacksonville mayoral race, but he was defeated by incumbent Mayor Lenny Curry. Trump posted to Truth Social about this, “Congratulations to a “star” in Kentucky, Daniel Cameron, who easily won the Republican Nomination for Governor. He had my Complete and Total Endorsement. The DeSanctimonious backed candidate came in a DISTANT third. Ron’s magic is GONE! He also lost, shockingly, in Jacksonville last night (Mayor).” DeSantis’s big advantage over Trump has been his ability to win in recent years, however, these two endorsees coming up short undermine that belief.
From yesterday’s show:
Republican Congressman commits criminal battery, attacks activist
Republican Congressman Clay Higgins, who portrays himself as a champion of law and order, has been captured on video committing what appears to be criminal battery on an activist. During a press conference with fellow Republicans Paul Gosar and Lauren Boebert, Higgins forcibly removed a protester, Jake Burdett, while Burdett exclaimed, "Get off me, you're hurting me." Multiple recordings show Higgins pushing Burdett out of the event, saying, "You're out" as he manhandled him. Legal experts who reviewed the footage believe that Higgins's actions constitute criminal battery. Criminal battery, regardless of the extent of physical contact, is considered a crime if it meets the necessary criteria. If found guilty, it can result in misdemeanor charges punishable by jail time or fines. If a Democratic member of Congress had engaged in similar behavior, certainly there would be right-wingers calling for their arrest. While the outcome of any accountability for Higgins remains uncertain, the incident clearly contradicts the principles of law and order that he claims to uphold.
