I could not be more disappointed with the situation we find ourselves in! I expected to enjoy my retirement with the civil rights we/I fought for in the 60-70’s and have enjoyed ever since. Ever since the last election.
David, one of the things that puzzles me is that no one seems to be reporting is what is going on in the neighbourhoods, how the people are feeling, the fear that they are living in. I heard from a friend living in Minneapolis and my heart was breaking. Everyone afraid to leave their homes even to go to the grocery store, neighbours setting up grocery trees (where all the neighbours get together and have one place in the neighbourhood to go for groceries - only one person need go out when necessary). She described that so much better, but I could hear the fear in her voice. She mentioned that absolutely no one is safe from ICE. If they see you and you look at them the wrong way you could be in for harassment. The fear coming through in her voice on the comment was tangible.
One of my best friends lives about a 1/2-hour drive from where Good was murdered & takes the bus to work downtown Minneapolis. She's also brown-skinned, a citizen born & raised here, & her mother was also a citizen. Even so, she's scared to go out & now takes her passport when she does. The law firm where she works had a staff meeting yesterday about going back to work-from-home protocols implemented at the beginning of Covid ... I'm so scared for her.
