The United States is under attack. Not from foreign invaders, not from aliens or zombies, but from within. The threat comes from a coalition of economic self-sabotage, performative populism, and creeping authoritarianism, all orchestrated by Donald Trump, his sometime ally and sometime rival Elon Musk, and the broader MAGA movement.
Trump's economic policies include a reckless approach to tariffs. His plan to impose tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico is effectively a tax on American consumers. Tariffs do not make America great again; they make everything more expensive. American families are already struggling with inflation, yet Trump is eager to exacerbate the problem under the guise of economic nationalism. The reality? It’s an attack on the middle class, cloaked in the rhetoric of patriotism.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk lurks in the background, making cryptic statements and vague promises about optimizing financial systems and expanding cryptocurrency integration into government functions. If Musk's leadership of X (formerly Twitter) is any indication, his vision for the future is a chaotic mix of impulsive decisions and financial mismanagement.
One of the more bizarre elements of Trump's latest economic agenda is his proposal for a sovereign wealth fund. Unlike traditional sovereign wealth funds, which are used by countries like Saudi Arabia to fund infrastructure projects or reduce national debt, Trump's plan is different. His big idea? The U.S. government should buy TikTok. This plan is not about economic growth or fiscal responsibility; it’s about consolidating power and control over digital spaces.
Trump’s immigration policies are another direct hit to the U.S. economy. His deportation agenda is a surefire way to devastate industries that rely on immigrant labor. Agriculture, construction, and hospitality are already struggling to find workers. Mass deportations would leave farms without workers, leading to crop shortages and skyrocketing food prices. Construction projects would stall, worsening the housing crisis. Restaurants would close, unable to fill key positions. Trump claims that American workers will take these jobs, but history tells us otherwise.
Trump's economic philosophy has shifted dramatically from the traditional Republican focus on small government and free markets. Instead, he has embraced a form of economic authoritarianism—government intervention in business, protectionist tariffs, and state-controlled enterprises. It’s the very opposite of conservative economic principles, yet it’s being sold to the American people as a nationalist strategy to reclaim economic dominance.
Musk has embraced Trump's vision of expanding state power, as long as he remains on the winning side of it. This marks a radical shift in the ideological landscape—where conservatives once championed free markets and limited government, they now embrace heavy-handed government intervention, as long as it serves their ideological and financial interests.
America is indeed under attack, but not from the sources Trump and Musk would have you believe. It’s not immigrants or foreign adversaries threatening our economy; it’s Trump’s authoritarian economic policies. It’s the tariffs that will cripple consumers and businesses. It’s the immigration crackdowns that will wreck entire industries. And it’s the billionaire class—led by Musk—seizing every opportunity to profit from the instability Trump creates.
The real winners in this new order? Trump’s ego, Musk’s bank account, and the next wave of billionaire grifters looking for an opportunity to exploit this economic turmoil. The biggest loser? The American people, who are being sold a dystopian vision of economic nationalism that does nothing to help working families but everything to enrich the powerful.
I am just TOO distressed to be coherent at this time. I listened to the Democratic Women's Caucus this morning, and that was encouraging to hear what they were doing. I will put my efforts into helping them, as I am a southern elderly female with limited resources, and I rely on my social security check----which, BTW, I WORKED for, I EARNED every penny of that money, working as a boat captain in a field dominated by men, and women earned substantially LESS PAY than men. I will NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THAT DARK NIGHT. I will RAGE AGAINST THE DYING OF THE LIGHT. Me and Ulysses, we will continue to fight and to adventure and to dare. I hope everyone else girds their weapons close to their bodies, so we are armed for the battle of the long knives. This IS war.
While I appreciate the breakdown of what’s going on. We’ve been hearing this for weeks. Beyond contacting our Representatives and Senators, what can WE THE PEOPLE, do? How bad will things have to be before we actually do something? What plans do our Representatives/Senators have to stop what is happening? Are they the only people who can help us? I just wonder what the solution is?
