Trump uses a playbook, strategies. Deny, Delect, Accuse, Distract, Ignore, Bully, Lie... He mixes them up, cycles through them, just keeps talking and if he can survive another day, the news cycle changes and that particular crime of failure is now "Old news" and so does not get covered, especially if Trump has created a NEW crisis, crime, scandal... to distract the media which has the attention span of ... what were we talkng about?
Republican Politicians do tend to be very transactional, pragmatic, aggressive, and while they often speak about morality they have a horrible track record of showing any consistency regarding it. It appears that their ethics, morality and adherence to the law / Constitution is generally only when it matches with a strategy / goal of theirs. Unfortunately power and money are common goals.
Trump has been a stress test on our system of government, and on the Republican Party. The Republican politicians who have opposed Trump, or been shoved out by Trump, seem to be the ones who had actual morals, ethics, adherence to the law / constitution. Those remaining that have some measure of these have shown us that aspect in them is not strong enough to overcome their 'dark side'.
To reference Star Wars, the 'dark side' is an easier path to power.
We have been down this road before with ABC and CBS. Not sure how even if defamation is proven it can be financially worth $10 billion.
The broadcast occurred just before the 2024 presidential election by BBC in England, not the USA. Trump won the election, so it is hard to understand how a broadcast from a foreign country did him any harm. Not sure if the broadcast made it to the US, but even if it did, the influence of BBC in American politics is minimal.
