36-year-old Lauren Boebert is about to be a grandmother
Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has announced that her teenage son is going to be a father, making her a grandmother at the age of 36. Despite the fact that the statistics show the children of teenage mothers have poorer outcomes in life, Boebert is celebrating her son's upcoming fatherhood and her own impending grandmotherhood. She has stated that the reason for the high rate of teen pregnancies in conservative, rural areas is that they "value life" and they understand the preciousness of the life that is about to be born. However, the statistics show that the children of young mothers are less likely to graduate high school and more likely to live in poverty. Furthermore, the best way to prevent teenage pregnancies is through safe, legal access to abortion and comprehensive sex education, both of which are opposed by Boebert and many of her fellow Republicans.
Kari Lake starts Trump's dirty work, pounds DeSantis
Kari Lake has begun doing Donald Trump’s dirty work, going after Ron DeSantis as a way to curry favor with the former president so she can become his VP pick. Lake has recently said about DeSantis, “we haven't seen Ron DeSantis on the world stage yet. And, you know, some of the people that are surrounding him are kind of the type of people that were pushing for war.” Lake also said it would be unfair to the people of Florida for DeSantis to jump into the presidential race when he was so recently reelected governor. She said, “the people of Florida just reelected him. I'm assuming when they reelected him, they were hoping he'd stay around for a while. So, I mean, I guess he's in his forties, he’s about ten years younger than me. He's got a long political future ahead of him. And I think he should respect that the people just voted him in as governor and serve out that term for the people of Florida. And then he could obviously run for president. But this is President Trump's turn.” The attacks by Lake will likely get more viscous as the primary season heats up and as Trump presumably starts to like her more and more.
From yesterday’s show:
Trump EASILY wins CPAC straw poll, DeSantis loses by 42 points
The CPAC straw poll held over the weekend resulted in Donald Trump winning easily, with 62% of the votes, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis came in second with only 20%. Although CPAC is not a true reflection of Republican primary voters, the results suggest that Trump is the favorite to win the Republican primary. Meanwhile, a recent Morning Consult poll, which includes several candidates, has Trump leading by a much more modest 25%. Meanwhile, Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican candidate who has so far received little support, claimed that the CPAC straw poll could be rigged by paying a few hundred thousand dollars to a consultant. Ramaswamy said that he received a call shortly after declaring his candidacy, offering to get him to the second spot on the poll in exchange for payment. He claimed to have refused the offer, but it’s not clear whether any of what he’s saying about this is actually true.
From yesterday’s show:
FL Republicans want IMPOSSIBLE 6-week abortion ban
Florida Republicans are seeking to turn the state's 15-week abortion ban into a 6-week ban, which would make it virtually impossible for women to access abortions in the state. The legislation, which would offer narrow exceptions, has been proposed by Republican leaders in Tallahassee and Governor Ron DeSantis has expressed support for the bill. The right is pushing forward on this despite the fact that 64% of Florida residents believe abortion should be legal in most or all cases. While some states are reviving old laws that were not relevant due to the existence of Roe v. Wade, others are seeking to build on the anti-abortion momentum generated by last year’s US Supreme Court decision to overturn the decades-long abortion precedent.
