Trump asked about religion, malfunctions and spits out random words
During a town hall with Sean Hannity, Donald Trump was asked about how his faith had supposedly grown since deciding to run for president in 2015 and who had mentored him on his faith journey. However, Trump's response was noticeably incoherent, as he rambled about unrelated topics from his past life, mentioned interactions with evangelicals and religious leaders without offering any substantive insights, and made vague references to Catholics and the FBI, completely sidestepping the essence of the question. This evasive non-answer further fuels the skepticism that Trump may not be genuinely religious or, at the very least, is incredibly unfamiliar with the teachings and practices of his professed faith. Despite lingering doubts about Trump's sincerity in matters of faith, it's disconcerting that many religious voters continued to support him during his presidency, possibly driven by political calculations or a willingness to accept his unverified religious claims.
Russell Brand's pathetic Ron DeSantis softball interview
Ron DeSantis appeared for an interview on Russell Brand’s show and it was chock-full of flattery and softball questions. Brand praised DeSantis' oratory skills and his apparent widespread popularity in Florida, without delving into the specifics of his supposed policy accomplishments or his many controversies. For instance, the two discussed the January 6th riots, with DeSantis defending former President Donald Trump and downplaying the severity of the events. Obvious from the exchange was how Brand missed crucial opportunities to ask more challenging questions that could have shed light on DeSantis' authoritarian ideology. Furthermore, Brand could have probed DeSantis on his strategy to attract Trump supporters and how this may impact his overall electability in a general election. Additionally, the interview did not delve into the highly controversial six-week abortion ban law recently passed in Florida. This exchange goes to show that Brand is becoming more right-wing over time and that’s he not willing to hold Republican politicians accountable.
From yesterday’s show:
OH NO: DeSantis ADMITS he wants to cut Social Security
Ron DeSantis's public position on Social Security has undergone a shift, and he now admits that he intends to implement cuts to the program if he’s elected president. While DeSantis currently asserts a commitment to protect Social Security for seniors, he candidly acknowledges plans to alter the program for younger generations. DeSantis now advocates for changes that would impact individuals in their thirties and forties, indicating a potential reduction in their benefits to ensure the program's sustainability. Even raising the age for when someone qualifies for benefits would effectively be a cut, since it lowers the number of years they’ll be able to collect from it. This shift in stance has raised grave concerns over the possibility of a cut to Social Security for younger workers. DeSantis has been struggling to make up ground against Donald Trump in the polls and his position to gut one of the most popular government programs in the country is likely not going to help him gain any ground.
From yesterday’s show:
DeSantis brags about 30 people at his event as campaign crumbles
Ron DeSantis went on Fox News for an interview and he bragged about having a few dozen people show up to his campaign events. He said, “I'm out there doing events. You know, we have 30, 40 people at some of these things, shaking hands, answering questions, doing all that.” These numbers are nothing to be bragging about for a presidential campaign and are significantly smaller than the crowds Trump is able to draw. In the interview, DeSantis seemed a bit more willing to criticize Trump on certain issues, adopting criticisms similar to the ones Chris Christie had previously leveled against the former president. However, DeSantis said he wasn’t going to get into the insult game and instead chose to focus on policy differences He attempted to distinguish himself from Trump on matters such as border wall construction and fiscal policies, arguing he could actually get the job done while Trump can only talk about it. DeSantis's polling numbers have been declining, with support now around 20%. The campaign's challenges are evident with the recent firing of twelve staffers, putting into question DeSantis's ability to gain momentum and secure the Republican nomination.
