There are people who still feel blacks should be slaves, Women should not have the right to vote, who feel we should never have revolted against the king of England, who feel we should never have opposed Hitler...
Then you have the polling questions which do not always catch how reluctant some answers are compared to others. Polls that do not ask the right questions to catch what people are really interested in. How likely are certain people to 'stay home', not bother to vote, and who will brave massive blizzards to vote. How many people that never voted before will vote this time...
Look at the special elections for the more accurate picture of how things are flowing.
