Hunched over, confused Trump launches attack on…Spain?!
Trump stumbled through bizarre, confused NATO remarks—blasting Spain and fumbling questions—while visibly disoriented and mocked by reporters
At the NATO summit, Donald Trump appeared disoriented, hunched over, and increasingly incoherent as he turned his attention to Spain, bizarrely criticizing the country for not paying its “full share,” even though Spain already meets NATO’s 2% defense spending benchmark. His remarks were riddled with confusion, condescension, and off-topic tangents, including asking a reporter if they were from Spain, then awkwardly saying “too bad.” His ramblings revealed little understanding of the subject and were met with visible discomfort and laughter from the press corps. What was seen by many as an embarrassing and undiplomatic performance was, in contrast, celebrated by parts of the MAGA base as Trump “standing up” to foreign nations—a stark example of the divergent ways his behavior is perceived across the political spectrum.
Trump was also pressed on his repeated, now-abandoned promise to end the Russia-Ukraine war in 24 hours. He dismissed the original pledge as sarcasm and admitted the conflict is “more difficult than people would have any idea,” a familiar reversal similar to past instances like his healthcare remarks in 2017. As his answers became increasingly jumbled, Trump pivoted to a new claim that he recently ended a separate decades-long war in just 12 days—another unsubstantiated boast. The event culminated in Trump tagging in Pete Hegseth to deliver a pro-Trump media diatribe, attacking outlets like CNN and The New York Times for reporting on leaked intelligence rather than praising the military strike. The scene encapsulated the chaos of the moment: a president unable to articulate foreign policy, leaning on right-wing media figures to defend him with propaganda-style rhetoric, and visibly unraveling under the pressures of global leadership.
