George Santos ARRESTED, in custody today, charged with crimes
Republican Congressman George Santos has been arrested and charged with 13 different criminal counts, including wire fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds, and making materially false statements to the House of Representatives. Santos has a history of lies and fabrications and has been accused of violating campaign finance laws, federal conflict of interest laws, and stealing cash meant for an Iraq war veteran's dog. He was arrested in Melville on Long Island and taken to a courthouse in central Islip. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has said he will look at the charges before determining whether Santos should be removed from Congress. There are two stories here, one of the charges and alleged wrongdoing and the other of how Republicans respond to it. Ever since it became clear Santos lied his way into Congress, people have wondered whether McCarthy and Republican House leadership would hold him accountable. Now that his wrongdoing has reached a possibly criminal level, there may finally be an willingness to oust him from Congress.
Trump EXPLODES over $5 million sexual assault verdict in most insane videos of all time
Former President Donald Trump exploded on his social media platform Truth Central after being found liable for sexual assault and defamation against writer E. Jean Carroll. Trump wrote, “Waiting for a jury decision on a False Accusation where I, despite being a current political candidate and leading all others in both parties, am not allowed to speak or defend myself, even as hard nosed reporters scream questions about this case at me. In the meantime, the other side has a book falsely accusing me of Rape, & is working with the press. I will therefore not speak until after the trial, but will appeal the Unconstitutional silencing of me, as a candidate, no matter the outcome!” He also posted, “I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHO THIS WOMAN IS. THIS VERDICT IS A DISGRACE - A CONTINUATION OF THE GREATEST WITCH HUNT OF ALL TIME!” Trump's support among Republicans is increasing despite his legal woes, and his polling numbers remain high, which is worrying for the general election.
From yesterday’s show:
Kayleigh McEnany replaces fired Tucker Carlson, goes TERRIBLY
Kayleigh McEnany, former press secretary for Donald Trump, filled in for the 8 pm Fox News timeslot formerly held by Tucker Carlson. Her show was pathetically unserious and started out with McEnany showing clips from her own RNC speech back in 2020. One of McEnany's guests, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, spoke about his disapproval of gender-affirming care for trans children, rather than the recent mass shooting that took the lives of eight people in his state. Former Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard also appeared as a guest and claimed that being transgender is a mental illness and that it's not real. Her remarks are being denounced as not only transphobic but also medically incorrect. Fox continues to struggle to find a permanent replacement for Tucker. The channel has to both appeal to its conservative viewership while also protecting itself against more lawsuits. However, the low ratings and negative reactions from the right-wing audience suggest that this tactic is not working and may even be causing further harm.
From yesterday’s show:
OH NO: Did Trump DOCTOR Mar-a-Lago security footage?
New allegations are surfacing against former President Donald Trump that suggest he may have provided doctored security footage from his Mar-a-Lago home. The footage is related to a search warrant that was served in connection to classified documents that Trump was asked to return but failed to. Special Counsel Jack Smith is said to have questions regarding the handling of the surveillance footage subpoenaed from Mar-a-Lago. There are suspicions that parts of the footage may have been removed or doctored by people working for Trump. As a result, grand jury subpoenas have been issued to top Trump employees, including Matthew Calamari and his son Matthew Calamari Jr, regarding the handling of the surveillance footage and conversations that followed the subpoena. These allegations are the latest in a string of issues that have plagued Trump’s life post-presidency, as he’s already been charged criminally over alleged hush money payments and found liable in a civil sexual assault and defamation lawsuit.
