So much ineptness and cruelty, it's the entire republican machine that needs to be thrown in the trash!

Douglas Gilligan's avatar

Yes, and while it is good to point to the cruelty, we need to shout out that Trump and even the 'elite' ranks of his MAGA Administration are completely incompetent.

He is so revolting. I really wish no press would cover him at all. He would have a meltdown if people weren’t fawning all over him.

Hound's avatar

The press is a joke because they’re a bunch of cowards. They walk on eggshells around Donald Trump and the other criminals.

If I was a White House reporter I would ask Trump questions like, “why did you tell over 30,000 lies in your first administration?“

“Hey illegitimate president, why do you wear that orange clown paint, don’t you realize it makes you look like a douche bag“.

“I don’t wanna see you have a Trumper tantrum but when you were raping girls on pedophile Island did you prefer ones with blonde hair like you do when you’re raping grown women”.

I’ve been saying that for years.

Trump must be impeached a third time if Democrats win 2026

Douglas Gilligan's avatar

Absolutely, but this time, be smart. Learn from our failures.

Don't treat it like a court trial, it isn't. The Republican Senators have proven they have no honor. It is a POLITICAL event, so play to the crowd, meaning the voters, who are the only influence those Republican Senators will fear.

DO NOT go in with a super detailed, endless minutia - perfect for a court case - but will put the voters to sleep. The voters will be primed to listen to a simple lie after they wake up.

DO NOT narrow it down to one 'perfect case' because the defense will lie, evade, attack...

Charge him with each and every time he did each type of crime.

Flood the Zone. Republicans have proven they have no honor, no integrity. They will lie, attack, deflect, deny, distract and generally say and do things that should just be dismissed, because they have lost ALL credibility. Focus on the scale and scope of Trump's crimes and those of his minions and enablers.

Sohel Bahjat's avatar

100% agree, we must treat it like a serious revolution or we are in a big trouble!

Douglas Gilligan's avatar

We already 'turned the other cheek'. We already played by the 'old rules'. We already gave Republicans respect and credibility. We need to learn from history, because otherwise we are idiots.

See how we failed, TWICE.

By the way, in an impeachment, we can use (on top of all his other crimes) his Jan 6 insurrection, since THIS time he is in office. The excuse most Republicans used last time is that the Impeachment process was invalid due to him no longer being in office. AND we can use the pardon of all his fellow insurrectionists, per the 14th amendment, section 3, that he did this term.

If Democrats go in cowardly this time, afraid of the defense, the lies, the twisted interpretations of the law, seeking the 'elegant, minimalist' approach for a quick prosecution that is a 'slam dunk' again... I may well give up on the idea they are either intelligent or serious in their efforts. We did those things and the Republican Senators just laughed and voted 'no'.

If we have the Senate and can set the rules:

Once a Senator votes 'Convict' it stands for Trump being removed from office. their vote will be logged and apply to removal with the understanding, per the 22nd amendment, he can not run for a third term. As soon as sufficient Senators have voted to convict, Trump is removed from office immediately and it is the duty of every federal officer to ensure it is completed promptly. His personal belongings will be returned to him later after they have been inspected and inventoried.

Then just continue the prosecution until it becomes embarrassing for the remaining Senators to claim Trump is not guilty 'enough'. That the constitutional clause of impeachment is not valid 'enough. That the Oath they took to the Constitution AND the additional oath they take for the impeachment are not 'binding enough' on their honor (what they have left of it). SHAME them until enough relent. Let the remaining add their conviction vote later if they so choose, for up to a year, with the date and time logged when they do so.

Let history judge them.

The trial length will be the weapon we use, not a hindrance. Trump has committed more crimes, abuses of power, violating the law, the constitution in so many ways... it could easily take a year to explore every single charge to completion. No hurry. No need to wait for more crimes, which he will commit until removed. Just add them to the 'next list', with the threat of another impeachment immediately following. Add another list of charges for each of his 'co-conspirators' with promised 'leniency' the sooner they quit. Make a separate list for JD Vance, even though as VP he has no actual power, look for opportunities... and certainly once in power, if he does not stop the violations, pull the trigger on him as well.

In other words ... go to war, constitutionally. Effectively. To win and take no prisoners. No mercy. (Leniency does not mean forgiveness)

Note: Per SCOTUS, using this process, Trump would be eligible for prosecution of every one of those crimes.

I just want to say that violence is no solution

Douglas Gilligan's avatar

In general I agree. While we retain the right to self defense, it is usually more effective to rely on Democracy to manage an out of control government. As long as that government is influenceable by public opinion.

As a problem solver I do not voluntarily disarm in a 'fight'. I tend to think in terms of ensuring the problem is solved, with overwhelming resources. Actually in conflicts, typically having overwhelming resources tends to reduce losses on both sides. Police use this strategy all the time, very effectively.

Thank you, David. I completely agree with the comment below that mirrors my own thoughts that press coverage should stop. Of course that doesn't seem likely since Trump now owns press outlets, so perhaps constant reminders of that could be helpful.

Sheila.dunn's avatar

But if ordinary people don't ' tune in' to The outlets that are spreading the lies, disinformation and general rhetoric that comes from the administration, wouldn't that be like sanctioning them? Thereby starving them of the airtime and oxygen they need?

The line that the ORANGE ASSHOLE crossed and can't go back from is COMMITTING TREASON AND SEDITION WHILE IN OFFICE, TOTALLY DISREGARDING AND VIOLATING THE PRESIDENTIAL OATH OF OFFICE!

ICE recruits complaining they didn't get their $59k bonuses? Hmm.. Russian army recruits having the same problem.

In order for Trump to gain Republican support to "nationalize" elections, something terrible would have to happen that he, or his supporters could use as a casus beli to actually attempt to put forward such a plan. Either a successful assassination against Trump or one of his prominent Republican supporters in power, or an assassination attempt, could spur on such a possibility. It could even be a false flag operation to make it look like an assassination attempt. Or they could target someone else, perhaps, against a Republican who is leaning away from Trump like Rand Paul. In which case they could twist the narrative. By supposedly framing such violence against Democrats, and using the obvious rebuttal by Democrats as supposed further proof of their complicity, Trump and/or his supporters could attempt to pass such legislation as a way to keep their hold on power, and possibly to gaslight democrats and anyone opposed to such legislation, into conducting more actions that could be viewed as threatening. In my opinion the likelihood of them pushing such an outrageous policy as it stands right now would likely not work. But, taking advantage of chaos (ironically of their own making) might have a higher chance of success that in turn creates even more chaos. At least that's how I see it. The obvious solution is to NOT TAKE THE BAIT. Unless it's a staged event as I stated earlier, in which case it may be too late. Hopefully, it's not the latter.

Douglas Gilligan's avatar

"A major political warning sign just emerged in Texas. Democrats flipped a deep red state senate seat by thirty-one points, despite Trump’s loud endorsement of the Republican."

Correction: Not "despite" but "because of".

Trump is toxic and will be on the ballot in every election this year. Thinking anything else is misreading the current reality and losing taking advantage of opportunities.

Kim Worthington's avatar

It is about Trump staying out of jail. It is also about Trump ruling the world. I do not say this flippantly.

Sheila.dunn's avatar

Accountability is of the utmost importance in any so-called western ' democracy ' but I'm not sure allowing trump, his current administration and those who are in his employ 'space for change'! Trump et Al has demonstrated that he/they are prepared to do/tolerate ANYTHING if it means staying in power! How can any democracy exist without justice and transparency?
