Black Democrat Threatened with Lynching for Criticizing Trump

Iowa Representative Ross Wilburn says he received lynching threats for criticizing Donald Trump. Wilburn, who is the first black person to serve as Iowa’s Democratic Party chairman, says he got several racist messages and threats after writing a column for the Des Moines Register. The opinion piece was called “Iowa Republicans put loyalty to Trump over helping Iowans.” Part of the article read, “the entire Republican Party of Iowa is welcoming Trump with open arms proving once again that they have completely surrendered themselves to a man who not only openly attacked the foundations of our democracy, but also has shown disdain for our Constitution, and failed to help the American people when we needed it most.” Wilburn said after the article was published that he received a voicemail message from a restricted number that included a lynching threat. He later had racial slurs hurled against him and received more hateful voicemails and emails over the next few days. Authorities are currently investigating where the threats came from and if there was any serious intention of them being carried out.

Matt Gaetz Claims Someone is Trying to Kill Him

Congressman Matt Gaetz, who continues to be at risk of child sex trafficking charges, said on the floor of the House of Representatives that he has been receiving death threats. Gaetz said, “I think someone may be trying to kill me and if they are successful I would like my constituents and my family to know who stopped their arrest.” The Florida congressman went on to explain that someone directed a tweet at him saying the city of Portland has ordered a hit on him and that this Twitter user was prepared to carry out the attack. Gaetz claimed the person in question then traveled to Washington DC and that the Capitol Police recommended his arrest but the Department of Justice refused to carry it out. There are so many questions here ranging from whether what the congressman is saying is true, to why the person wasn’t arrested if it is true, to why Gaetz felt compelled to share the story on the floor of the House of Representatives. One theory as to why Gaetz is sharing this story is so that he can build up a narrative of federal authorities being biased against him, so that if he is indeed charged in the child sex trafficking scandal that he can pretend it’s merely a political hit job. Given all we have learned about Gaetz, especially over the past six months, his motivations need to be questioned and his statements need to be scrutinized.

Report Claims Joe Manchin Considering Leaving Democratic Party

Reports surfaced this week of West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin threatening to leave the Democratic Party. Tensions have been high between most of the party and Senators Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema over the Build Back Better spending plan currently working its way through Congress. According to Capitol Hill insiders, Machin said he would consider leaving the Democratic Party if there is not a move to cut the size of the spending bill in half and that he would be willing to declare himself an “American Independent.” If this plan was carried out, Manchin would reportedly first send a letter to Majority Leader Chuck Schumer that he intends on leaving his leadership post and if that didn’t work to calm things down, the West Virginia senator would change his party affiliation from Democrat to Independent. Even if this were to take place, not much would change if Manchin chose to caucus with the Democrats like Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and Maine Senator Angus King. Since the reports have come out, Manchin has categorically denied this happened and has emphasized his intentions of remaining a member of the Democratic Party. Perhaps the story is true and that Manchin floated it only to deny it later as a way to flex the leverage that he has over the Biden presidency and the Democratically-controlled Senate.

Trump's New Social Media Site Hacked Within Hours of Announcement

Donald Trump’s upcoming “Truth Social” website was hacked just hours after the announcement was made putting into question whether it will have any chance of surviving once it’s actually launched. The site was set to open to “invited guests” in November and to the wider public next year, but this week people were able to access it and create accounts using a publicly available link. A technology reporter for The Washington Post named Drew Harwell said he was able to register an account with the username “mikepence.” Harwell later tweeted, “the ‘donaldjtrump’ account of Trump’s TRUTH Social has already been hacked” along with a screenshot of a defecating animal supposedly posted by Trump’s account. However, it’s not clear whether this account was actually reserved for Trump himself. Another user was able to take the handle “donaldtrump” before ultimately the public domain was taken down. If this is a sign of what’s to come for Truth Social, this looks to be just the latest in a long list of Trump’s short-lived media endeavors.
