Big Massive Dumps Go Viral at Trump Riot Hearings
“Big massive dumps” has been trending on Twitter because the famous quote by Donald Trump was rebroadcasted yesterday during day two of the January 6th Capitol riot hearings. As a reminder, shortly after the 2020 election, Trump went on Maria Bartiromo’s Fox News show and said, “this election was over and then they did dumps. They call them dumps. Big massive dumps in Michigan and Pennsylvania and all over.” We at the show did our best to make this moment go viral when it happened, but it appears as though it resurfacing at the riot hearing did a better job of that. Day two of the hearing proved a connection between the claims Trump was making in the election aftermath with what his supporters were saying at the Capitol during the riots. The Trumpists apparently found the “big massive dumps” claim persuasive and for many of them it was enough to put others in danger and get themselves arrested.
Fmr White House Counsel: Trump "Likely" to Be Prosecuted in Georgia
Former White House counsel Norm Eisen predicts that Donald Trump will be prosecuted in Georgia for his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in the state. When Trump called Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and asked him to “find 11,780 votes” that didn’t exist, he may have broken a state law against election tampering. This is exactly what District Attorney Fani Willis is investigating and earlier this year she mentioned the decision about whether to indict the former president would be coming before the end of June. Norm Eisen told CNN about the investigation, “I think the evidence is particularly strong for a prosecution in the state of Georgia, where the Atlanta DA has convened a special grand jury.” Eisen joins a growing list of officials who are predicting an indictment is coming and it may not be too much longer until we find out whether it’s going to come.
From yesterday’s show:
SHOCK: 10 Senate Republicans Agree to Gun Control Bill
A group of senators have come to an agreement on a bipartisan piece of gun control and mental health legislation. The coalition importantly includes ten Republican senators and all of the centrist Democrats, meaning it’s actually looking like it’ll be able to get passed through Congress and signed into law. The bill is expected to include support for state crisis intervention orders, funding for school safety resources, an enhanced review process for buyers under the age of 21, and penalties for straw purchasing. The legislation will also have a red flag provision so that states and courts will have the resources to make sure firearms are kept out of the hands of people who are at significant risk of doing harm with them. Certainly this legislation won’t go far enough and much more can be done on the topic of gun control including universal background checks, magazine capacity limits, and restricting semiautomatic long gun ownership for people under 21. But given Congress’s typical unwillingness to do anything after mass shootings, at least we’ll have this as a step in the right direction.
From yesterday’s show:
UH OH: Inflation & Gas Prices Higher AGAIN
Last Friday, the Consumer Price Index data for the month of May was released and it showed that year-over-year inflation has ticked up to 8.6%. It was predicted by economists ahead of the numbers release that that number would drop to 8.2%, slightly down from April’s 8.3%, so this was a pretty significant miss. At the same time, gas prices continue to soar with the AAA national average for a gallon of gasoline now up to $5. These indicators have caused sell offs in the stock market over fears of continued interest rate hikes and the S&P 500 is now officially in bear market territory, down about 22% from its highs. Unfortunately, administrations have little control over inflation and the price of gas, yet voters are likely to hold Democrats accountable for these poor economic metrics in November’s midterms.
