CIVIL WAR: Sean Hannity vs Lauren Boebert EXPLODES
Fox host Sean Hannity had Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert on his show last night to scold her about not falling in line behind Kevin McCarthy in his bid to become House Speaker. Hannity made the point that McCarthy has far more votes than the Republican alternatives so it’s time to come together and get him the 218 votes he needs. Boebert began her response by saying, “I understand the frustration.” Hannity immediately cut her off and said, “I’m not frustrated. You didn’t answer my question.” Then, Boebert proposed the idea of electing Donald Trump the House Speaker. Hannity responded, “is this a game show? Like we’re going to pick Jim Jordan one day, [Byron] Donalds the other day, Trump the next day?” It’s not all that typical to see Republican infighting like this, and the participants are only serving to make themselves look like unserious people.
Fox Guest CRUSHES Fox News ON FOX, Host CUTS Interview
Author Steve Almond went on Laura Ingraham’s Fox News show last night to discuss Damar Hamlin’s injury during an NFL football game Monday night. The interview must not have gone how Ingraham expected because she ended up cutting the interview short after Almond made a number of tremendous points. Steve argued that the NFL isn’t interested in seriously trying to reform the game to make it safer, but rather, they’d like to throw money at the problem for PR purposes to see if it goes away. Almond compared the situation to what Fox News does whenever one of their personalities gets accused of sexual harassment, to which Laura responded, “that’s a cute little move.” She then tried to strawman Steve by claiming he just wants to see football banned. Finally, Almond took an opportunity to compare the NFL’s economic incentive to maintain the status quo to when Ingraham taunted the survivors of the Parkland mass shooting leading to advertisers pulling commercials from her show. Laura didn’t like this at all, and she abruptly ended the interview. This is exactly how to handle an adversarial exchange on one of these Fox News propaganda shows and Steve Almond did an excellent job.
From yesterday’s show:
Tucker & Hannity Abandoning Kevin McCarthy?
Both Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity were critical of House Republicans’ inability to elect a House Speaker a few days into the 118th Congress. Tucker said on his program, “McCarthy is not conservative enough to represent a party that's just taking back the House from Nancy Pelosi. And they are definitely right about that. McCarthy is not especially conservative. He is, in fact, ideologically agnostic. He’s flexible.” Hannity during his program added to the criticism, saying, “House Republicans now are on the verge of becoming a total clown show if they’re not careful. But despite the cheering and elation from Democrats and the mob in the media, it's not a dire situation yet.” Both Carlson and Hannity gave themselves plenty of wiggle room in their statements to fall back in line in case the party does end up uniting behind McCarthy. But they also made it clear that they’re unhappy with the current state of affairs in the House and how bad it may make the Republican Party look.
From yesterday’s show:
Multiple Republicans have now compared Republican Congressman Jim Jordan to George Washington in the context of the House Speaker’s race. Jordan has been seen as an alternative to Kevin McCarthy for the position despite the fact he’s repeatedly said he’s not interested. Some Republicans are now comparing this to George Washington who didn’t want to become president after winning the Revolutionary War. Congresswoman Lauren Boebert and Republican Congressman-elect Scott Perry both made the comparison. Boebert said, “going back to Jim Jordan, George Washington did not want to be president of the United States, but he did what was right for his country.” Congressman-elect Perry built on this point, saying, “if you listened and watched the speech that Jim Jordan gave, quite honestly, most Republicans sat there and said, ‘oh my goodness, why isn't this guy running for Speaker?’ And wow, I know Jim would be reluctant to remind everybody. George Washington was reluctant too when his country called.” Of course, there’s no serious comparison to be drawn between Washington and Jordan, but if it keeps the Republican infighting going, it’s worthwhile to see them try.
