Mitch McConnell "Doesn't Know" if Any Black Women Work for Him
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was asked by a member of the media how many black women work for him, presumably in the context of President Biden vowing to select a black woman to the Supreme Court. The answer McConnell gave was rather strange. The Republican Senate Leader either couldn’t hear, or pretended not to be able to hear the question twice and asked the reporter to pull his mask down. McConnell then responded after a third time, “actually, I haven’t checked. We don’t have a racial quota in my office. But I’ve had a number of African American employees, both male and female, over the years in all kinds of different positions including speechwriter.” It was obvious from his tone that McConnell was unaware if he had any black women on staff but also that he believed the question to be a racist one. Of course, it’s not racist to ask this question or to know the answer to it, but McConnell has an expressed interest in making it seem like it is as a way to attack Joe Biden and his Supreme Court promise.
Marjorie Taylor Greene Might Run for President, Alex Jones Encourages
Marjorie Taylor Greene went on Alex Jones’ show this week and at one point she was asked about running for president. Jones asked point blank, “can we get you to run for president in the next few years? Because I think you’re one of the few people that would probably have a better voting record and a better chance of winning than even Trump. Or maybe a Greene/DeSantis ticket?” MTG did not flat out deny the possibility, although she did reiterate being a “very strong supporter of President Trump.” She went on to say, “in the future, we’ll definitely see what happens. I’ll definitely see what the people think about something like that.” This prospect is obviously something that has gone through her mind and it’s certainly a scary thought. However, even in a country where Donald Trump was able to win the presidency, it’s hard to imagine that someone as crazy as Marjorie Taylor Greene would be able to get into the White House.
From yesterday’s show:
Tucker Guest Says Patriarchy is Good, What God Intended
Jason Whitlock, sports journalist turned political commentator and cultural critic, went on Tucker Carlson’s daytime program and argued that the patriarchy is a good thing. The exchange sounded like it took place in 1952, but it indeed happened in 2022. Whitlock said, “I probably am a sexist pig, so I could care less if I’m called that. But the patriarchy is a good thing. It’s what God intended. Men are supposed to lead. Men are supposed to be out front, taking risks, we’re responsible.” Tucker, recognizing this was a controversial statement but not wishing to disagree with his guest, responded half-heartedly, “why are you not allowed to have that opinion? Why is that so controversial? That was the opinion from the beginning of time up until about twenty minutes ago.” This conversation is wrapped up in this bigger right-wing movement that tries to justify the patriarchy by falsely claiming it to be the natural way of life. Evidence shows that patriarchal societies don’t go back more than 10,000 years, but it’s hard to convince folks who don’t even believe in evolution that this is the case.
From yesterday’s show:
They're Pretending Nominating a Black Woman is Racist
Fox News host Laura Ingraham is one of a chorus of right-wing voices who are arguing that it’s racist and sexist for Joe Biden to select a black woman to the Supreme Court. Ingraham said on her show, “candidate Biden — he thought he was being really woke and so cool by pledging to nominate an African American woman to the high court. But of course, he was also effectively discriminating against the vast majority of the adult population.” Ingraham’s argument falls flat for two major reasons: First of all, in a country of over 330 million people, there are countless individuals who would be qualified to serve on the Supreme Court. Biden recognizing that in America’s 200+ year history a black woman has never served on the bench and wanting to right that wrong is not “discrimination.” Secondly, folks like Laura Ingraham had no problem when Presidents Reagan and Trump vowed to select women to the Supreme Court. However, Ingraham and her allies will continue to make this bogus argument all the way up until Biden’s nominee is inevitably confirmed by the US Senate.
