The government shutdown meant to hurt Democrats is backfiring on Republicans. New polling shows half of Americans now blame Republicans while 43 percent still blame Democrats even though they control nothing. Trump’s approval remains low but steady as federal workers are furloughed, airports disrupted, and the shutdown costs $15 billion a week.
The shutdown is threatening essential programs for millions of Americans. SNAP benefits for November will not be issued, affecting 42 million people. Trump has suggested Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid could also be at risk unless Democrats approve funding. Public disapproval is rising with polling showing Trump at a record-high 60 percent and 63 percent disapproving of his handling of the economy.
During the shutdown, 13 Senate Democrats voted to confirm Trump’s handpicked judge Hal Mooty to a lifetime federal judgeship in Alabama. Mooty gave evasive answers on the 2020 election, January 6, and presidential term limits. This is part of a pattern where Democrats cede ground to Republicans rather than fighting back.
Trump is suing his own Department of Justice for $230 million, claiming he was wronged by investigations while Biden was president. Since Trump now controls the DOJ, the agency he is suing will decide whether he is owed the money. This would make the president effectively both the plaintiff and the judge over taxpayer money.
In a rambling press conference, Trump confusedly claimed to both impose and oppose tariffs on China. He falsely insisted Portland was on fire and said he could send the National Guard into any city. He said the war in Ukraine does not affect the United States, boasted about lowering prices by impossible amounts, and floated redistributing tariff money to Americans even though tariffs are paid by consumers.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt attacked her predecessor Karine Jean-Pierre, accusing her of lying for Biden. Leavitt falsely blamed Democrats for the government shutdown and rising health care costs, ignoring Republican control and Trump’s policies that undermined Obamacare.
There is a growing online Trump Death Watch claiming he has only months to live, but the data does not support it. At almost 80, Trump is still expected to live another eight to nine years according to actuarial tables. Additionally, his wealth and top-tier health care greatly improve his odds.
Finally, Sabrina Singh, former Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary in the Department of Defense under President Biden, joins us to discuss the state of the DoD under Pete Hegseth, including the fallout from Signalgate and the new restrictive press rules.
On today’s bonus show:

BLACKOUT THE SYSTEM
Please talk about this at your No Kings Rally. This is the next step in the Anti-tRump / Fight the Oligarchs Resistance
Time to End this Evil Nightmare.
BLACKOUT THE SYSTEM is a national movement born out of frustration, injustice, and the undeniable truth that the people hold the power - not corrupt governments, not billionaires, not broken systems.
The billionaire oligarchs pay big bucks for campaigns that help elect politicians, who will support the causes that make them richer. They are the ones who elected the tRump and control the government. In an effort to bring down the tRump's administration from hell - we are strategically and peacefully shutting down the U.S. economy - by removing our labor, our spending, our financial support, forcing the system to listen.
This movement launched to remove the billionaires from our government, reclaim power for the people, restore justice, and unite citizens across all races, cultures, and classes.
We are asking all citizens to boycott billionaire businesses and products (the ones that have locations or can be purchased in every state) avoid working and spending as much as possible November 25 - December 2, 2025
