Is there going to be a point, hopefully soon, where the Democrats get together and create a real live platform that they can then present to the people? We need to hear these ideas from all or most of them to show they have become a more cohesive voice. I know that isn't what is normal for Democrats, but there needs to be a united voice that plays again and again. And stop looking at surveys and reacting. Create a platform, go with it.

Yes, a platform, but even more, a plan. A plan for how to remove Trump, a plan for how to impeach him and GET the votes to remove him, a plan to gather and prepare ALL the articles of impeachment (Flood the Zone), with evidence so when we take congress, we can ACT quickly.

A plan for all of the legislation (pre-prepared) so when it is 2029, we can act quickly, making real changes, because Executive orders only do so much. A plan for all the executive orders to undo damage done by Trump, and a listing of all the people we need to hire to replace those removed or who are MAGA loyalists so our government can be functional again. A plan for the major changes needed to fix the problems in our system which caused too many people to vote for Trump in the first place. A plan for how to remove and replace enough SCOTUS Justices (if not restructure SCOTUS) to undo their decades long damage.

None of this will happen without a plan, and without a plan we will not earn the trust of an increasingly desperate people. We might even be able to earn the trust of that portion of the voters who vote for dysfunction every time, who vote for congress and the white house to be of opposing parties. If we can not do it in two years, we will not be able to undo the damage Trump will have done by then by his ignoring the laws. We will not be able to build in enforceable safeguards for the next time a dictator wannabe gets into the white house.

IF we can hold on and regain power we will have one chance to get it right, inside of two years. If we cannot regain power, then all is lost. Let us plan for success, because planning for losing is too easy.

We should plan for amendments, because after Trump, it will be our best opportunity to fix things right. It is time and past time to fix some things that have gone bad for too long.

With a plan, and a platform, Democrats can support it without having to spend all their time talking about it. People will be able to see Democrats STAND for something other than simply opposition to Trump. People will have hope that real change will happen if they vote for a Democrat, because since Obama ran on a platform of change, that has been what people vote for and increasingly they have lost faith that Democrats will actually change anything.

Remember the good old days, David, during the last presidency under Biden, where no matter what the Dems did or said or passed into law, good bad, or indifferent, Donnie Trump always had some stupid comment to go along with it. He always had a reporter’s microphone in his face, and he used that, it seemed every single day to say the dumbest things imaginable, to tell another lie, or to do his childish name-calling. Why do we never hear from Democrats right now, with a few exceptions, such as Pete Buttigieg, Newsom, Pritzker, Sanders, etc.?

Hi David, thank you so much for your work and this opportunity. Loved your book, btw. Eventually, Trump will literally die away, but what do you think are the chances that the money in politics, which is killing us right now, both sides of the aisle, can be controlled. Specifically, campaign donation limits, campaign spending limits, and term limits for Congress and the Supreme Court. Thanks, David.

How do you explain that the Orange Douche can only spew lies unendingly, and no one cares in his administration or his base? What has damaged these people to this point of not wanting truth to be honored?

In this article (link below) in the October issue of the Atlantic the concept of Originalism is refuted by Jill Lepore who asserts the Constitution actually provides the mechanism for change by allowing amendments. The Bill of Rights are the original amendments.

She posits that our current polarization is the result of our failure to pass any meaningful amendments since 1971. Instead we’ve used the Supreme Court to interpret the Constitution.

I believe that the increasing power of lobbyists and separate partisan news sources, accelerated by FOX NEWS, social media, and other news echo chambers have created calcified opposition instead of dialogue.

How do we break this logjam and create a more responsive government?

If originalism were applied to the second amendment, guns would be still be single shot, flint lock, muzzle loaders. So how does SC support unlimited magazines? Truth be told, it is phony argument and selectively used when they do not want to deal with an issue. We now have 6 weasels who pretend to be judges to please Trump. Their immunity fraud told you whose side they are on.

Don't ask me why I happened to see this, but a woman who is an intuitive on YouTube asked AI to explain the history behind where America is where it is today and how it got there. Have you done something like this? She claimed that the information it provided helped her understand the chaos that surrounds us. I know you are not about "woo" but will you do this experiment to track trends in society such as the Reagan era open ticket to Old White Guy (OWG) Republicans; the 2008 mortgage crisis; the rise of the internet and the "functional ease" of tech activities such as online shopping, telehealth, banking, and communicating; generational attitudes, especially Gen Z; etc. I trust your voice and your intellect. Thank you.

Have you seen the 40 page New York Times story, that's about how daddy dear helped his sonny boy, Donnie tRump, out of bankruptcy a lot of times. The original story was 200 pages. The paper was taken to court and the final ruling was they could print 40 pages. Well Monday, 10/20, Rachel Maddow had it and was reading some of the story. And then she got cut off. And didn't come back. Do you know anything about that?

You mentioned at one time that you're originally from Argentina. Given Trump's War on Immigrants (Naturalized, Legal Or Not), are you planning on remaining in the U.S., or leaving the country.

Personally, I would not want you to leave; but I realize your personal safety is paramount and these are exceedingly dangerous times for everyone.

I'm reading up on the Russia/Ukraine war. It seems to me that t Rump and Putin are playing games. At this rate, Ukraine doesn't stand a chance. Zelensky definitely isn't getting help from us. tRump is allowing Putin to continue attacking. Someone needs to intercede on behalf of Ukraine. Where is NATO? How can everyone just sit on their laurels and let Ukraine be completely destroyed?

Hi David — I’ve reached out before, but hoping to try again here since this AMA might be a good time to ask directly.

I’m part of Swing Blue Alliance, a grassroots volunteer group that’s developed a set of local media tools to help communities push back against disinformation and reach voters beyond the usual echo chambers. We’re seeing great results at the local level — but we need help getting the word out so other groups can use these same tools.

Would you be open to a short meeting or Zoom to see what we’re doing and whether it might make sense for you to help spread it? I think you’d really appreciate how non-partisan, evidence-based, and locally rooted this approach is.

Thanks for all you do to keep people informed — you’ve been a huge inspiration for many of us trying to defend democracy from the ground up!

David, as we all know...Trump is a purely transactional decision-maker. With that in mind, what is your assessment of Trump's recent 20 billion dollar bailout of Argentina's banking system and his call for more imports from the country's beef industry? What do they have that he wants and how is he planning to get it? Is the Argentine state and body politic truly "fighting for their lives," as Trump recently claimed?

David, what do you think about citizens filing a massive class action lawsuit over the demolition of the East Wing of the WH? That is our house. It's like if we lived in a planned community and one of the homeowners just took a wrecking ball to the community center and swimming pool. We also really need to put a stop to the work on the bunker which is terrifyingly the actual reason for that whole project. Thoughts?

So do we have any idea what happens to those detained? Are they deported? Released? Held?

I ask because I had a disturbing discussion with a friend who insisted that they eventually receive due process to determine their status. She indicated I was believing conspiracy theories.

I have been wondering, but if I carry a “due process for all” sign I just want to make sure it is an issue.

Thanks!

An Alternative to Mass Deportations

Wouldn´t it be grand if both political parties accepted responsibility for not reforming our immigration law for the last 40 years?

Isn´t it grand that 57% of American people believe that there should be a way for undocumented migrants to stay legally in the US ?

Wouldn´t it be grand if our politicians agreed on a bi-partisan way to create a legal pathway for undocumented migrants with no criminal records to have a mechanism to work or do business in the US ?

Wouldn´t it be grand if the democratic party presented a sensible proposal against mass deportations in time for the Mid-Terms for voters to consider?

Agreed that it is a long standing problem, but it was 'functional' for the country until Trump declared it was not. Each administration, when they come into office, barely have an idea of a plan, and have to work with congress to get any major legislation done, preferably in their first year since Congress is focused on the elections in their second year.

In Clinton's first two years, he focused his major effort on medical reform - and failed. In Obama's first two years, he focused on Medical reform and succeeded (At least made significant changes), Biden in his first two years (with 50 Democrats in the Senate, and two of them were very 'conservative') focused on Economic Recovery Global Warming and Infrastructure, and succeeded. Unfortunately in each of those three cases they lost at least one house of congress after that, and Republicans had for decades been focused on disruption of government, rather than governing (arguably even now).

Let us agree we need change, especially now that Trump has made so many bad changes, and these changes will need to be big and bold and planned in advance because we will only have two years to prove what we are doing is good to the vast majority of the people.
