Soaking wet Trump can't stop lying in deranged speech
Donald Trump held a rally in New Hampshire where he appeared visibly sweaty and unhealthy. Trump began by discussing policy issues, particularly crime and cultural topics. He expressed his intention to overhaul the Department of Justice, reinstate “stop and frisk,” and cut funding for schools promoting critical race theory. His statements on keeping men out of women's sports and banning “child sexual mutilation” also got rounds of applause. Trump asked the crowd whether he should participate in the Republican primary debate, with his hesitation linked to his lead in the polls. He acknowledged the entertainment value of his participation and suggested some people want to see him debate for selfish reasons. Trump went on to make baseless claims about cocaine found at the White House belonging to Hunter Biden and his views on the 2020 election. Finally, Trump attacked Chris Christie's weight, pouncing on an opportunity to call him a “fat pig,” and claiming the rest of the Republican field doesn’t have a chance against him.
DeSantis campaign floundering, replaces campaign manager
Ron DeSantis has replaced his campaign manager, Generra Peck, marking the third major overhaul of his campaign in just over two months. James Uthmeier, previously DeSantis's chief of staff, will replace Peck in the role. The decision follows budgetary constraints and staffing changes, resulting in a third of the campaign team leaving. Peck's removal was anticipated by some, and it follows weeks of declining poll numbers and an inability to fundraise. Uthmeier, though familiar with DeSantis, lacks campaign experience and is considered to be more of a legal expert who has a strong friendship with the Florida governor. The campaign plans to adopt a leaner approach after overspending in its early stages and now being strapped for cash. DeSantis has also shifted his stance on media engagement, opting for mainstream media appearances, instead of just Fox News, right-wing radio shows, and podcasts. Despite DeSantis's determination to overcome obstacles, his poll numbers have dropped significantly, and he's now trailing behind Gavin Newsom in the presidential prediction markets, who doesn’t even have any intention to run for president this cycle.
From yesterday’s show:
2024 Republican primary is ALL TRUMP, DeSantis collapsing, Ramaswamy surge is over
Donald Trump appears to be sailing to victory in the Republican primary, maintaining a commanding lead against the rest of the field. Trump is now at 54% support in the RealClearPolitics average, contrasted against the declining support for Ron DeSantis who’s now down to about 16%. Third-place contender Vivek Ramaswamy had an increase from 1.3% to 6%, but his surge seems to have leveled off, leading to questions about his path to victory especially since he trails behind Trump and Mike Pence in key early primary states. Possible disruptors to Trump's dominance, such as legal issues or charismatic debate performances, are unlikely to significantly alter the giant gap Trump has created against the rest of the field. The unique circumstances of Trump being a former president and the lack of candidates willing to directly criticize him contribute to his strong position. There are plenty of examples in modern American history of the August frontrunner not becoming the party’s eventual nominee, but given this unique circumstance, it’s possible that Trump already has the nomination locked up.
From yesterday’s show:
You don't actually think Trump can WIN again, do you?
The most likely showdown in the 2024 general election is Joe Biden and Donald Trump running against each other in a rematch of 2020. At this point, more than a year out from the presidential race, it is anyone’s guess who will win. This is made clear by the fact that the percentages of Biden and Trump supporters in current polls fall below 100%, indicating a significant bloc of missing or undecided voters. As the election draws nearer, these uncertain voters may lean towards the Democratic side due to the presence of Trump on the ballot, or they may go Trump’s way if the economy and other domestic issues are not favoring the current administration. This potential shift is anticipated to drive a substantial Democratic voter turnout, potentially resulting in a more decisive victory for Biden than what the current polling might suggest. Nonetheless, the analysis underscores the fluid nature of the political landscape and how nothing in politics should be taken for granted.
