Today is Thursday, October 2, 2025, and this is your news and preview of today’s show.

Donald Trump’s administration is cutting off federal money to states that voted against him. Trump’s budget director announced the cancellation of nearly eight billion dollars in green energy projects across sixteen states, all of which supported Kamala Harris. The White House also froze eighteen billion dollars in funding for New York’s subway expansion and the Hudson River tunnel to New Jersey. Trump praised the move on Truth Social, calling it a way to eliminate waste and fraud.

The government shutdown is raising questions about Trump’s motives as it delays the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Arizona congresswoman-elect Adelita Grijalva has not been sworn in, despite Republicans being seated without delay. She has pledged to support a vote to release the files, which requires 218 signatures. Democrats chanted “swear her in” on the House floor, but the ceremony remains stalled. Polls show two-thirds of Americans believe Trump knew about Epstein’s crimes.

Concerns about Trump’s fitness are also growing. Pennsylvania congresswoman Madeleine Dean told Speaker Mike Johnson that the president is unhinged and unwell. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker joined California’s Gavin Newsom in raising concerns about Trump’s mental health, with Pritzker calling for removal under the 25th Amendment, citing signs of dementia.

Censorship questions surfaced after The Verge reported that Google search AI gives summaries about Biden and dementia but not Trump. Google said not every query triggers a summary. The story comes just after Google agreed to pay Trump $24.5 million to settle a lawsuit over his YouTube ban.

Economically, the latest ADP report showed private payrolls fell by 32,000 in September, the first monthly decline in over two years. Losses hit leisure, hospitality, construction, and small businesses. Healthcare and education added jobs, but August’s data was revised downward into a loss. Economists say the report shows clear weakening in the labor market.
