When at first he does not succeed, try try again. The sad part is half of the US voted for him, knowing it would be retribution and mayhem. Maybe when they find out it comes to their door they might have change of attitude. Especially when doctor and hospital turn them away.

It feels like we’re being “product tested” daily on a smorgasbord of anti democratic ideas. Leaked conversations about repealing the 19th Amendment; repealing same sex marriage; ending birthright citizenship; revoking a woman’s right to vote; punishing women who suffer miscarriages; federal police patrolling our streets; arrests without judicial warrants; lack of due process; inhumane detention centers. Will we resist? Will we even notice?

Exhausted though we may be, silence is not an option if we want to keep our Republic.

Sorry, but in the land of the Orange King those figures are mathematically wrong. In fact any figure that says things are in the negative is wrong. Employment is great everywhere and everyone is rich with all that tariff money pouring everywhere. Factories are being built everywhere and every country in the world has made great, great deals with the US. And 2+2 can and will make 7. I'll prove it;

2 + 2 = 7.

See. Easy. And any maths teacher or fact checker that says otherwise is a liberal traitor in the pay of China! And even worse, a Democrat who drinks the blood of children!

All hail the Orange King!

On a serious note, maybe if the liberal side starts talking about the 2nd Amendment rights when it comes to ICE raids they might get the gun control the right have been blocking for years. Just a bit of reverse psychology.....

Dems do need to come up with something that is near and dear to Repubs to challenge them. If given the Solomon's choice of no abortion or guns, guess which one they would choose? I bet it would be guns.

The growth in inflation and the drop in jobs is only beginning. Trump has worked hard to build it up to this point. The employment problem resulting from his trade wars was partly masked by his TACO routine, and that companies were preparing for the downturn to come. Now it is hitting and the downturn will continue. As there are more unemployed buying fewer things there will be fewer employees needed to satisfy their purchases. Other countries are settling into their habit of buying from anyone but the US. Employment will continue to fall, prices continue to go up as they run out of the goods they were able to stock up on, with American producers happily raising their prices to match, since they typically can not magically increase production just by hiring more people. Not without massive investment which is dangerous while courts are still deciding on the legality of the tariffs.

Typically the FED raises interest rates to control inflation, on the idea that the higher rates causes fewer purchases which results in more unemployed which results in people with less money buying less resulting in reduced inflation. (yes, I think it is not a good system)

This time Trump has managed to raise inflation by raising tariffs and lowered employment with his worldwide trade war. The best the FED can do is nothing at all. Trump created this mess and only Trump, or the courts, or congress can fix it. This is above the FED's paygrade.

Maybe the courts will be motivated to move a little faster on the issue before them (a lower, specialty court focused on trade law already ruled his tariffs were illegal) now that Trump driven by his TACO nickname, or his desperation to distract from the Epstein case has brought us to the stage where his MAGA followers are starting to feel the pain, giving them one more reason to turn on him.

I don’t think that trump will sell (he never gives) Alaska. Particularly since it’s connected to Canada, still a war ally. Once one of his aides tells trump that he’s fumbled his words again (he must have a special word-fumble aide) and he finds out that America owns Alaska, then he won’t sell it. Unlike trump standing on the roof of the White House and proclaiming that he owns it.

Interesting how the new head of the BLS will turn out. Right wing commentators have for years claimed that the BLS understated inflation and unemployment. Shadow Stats, a right wing web site, has shown charts for inflation and unemployment that are much higher than BLS stats show. So now we have one of those former critics that's going to claim that the BLS now has a bias to overstate inflation and unemployment? That's going to be a real interesting tap dance.

Trump is now head of the BLS, and he does it all from the Oval Office, using just large sheets of paper.

If the republicans think playing dirty is fine, why don't Democrats do it? We need something to fight back. What about the 25th amendment?

Expand full comment
Douglas Gilligan's avatar

The 25th as applied only by the cabinet, though it does indicate incapacity as a reason to not have the person be president.

Look at the 14th Amendment, section 3. Remember he gave aid and comfort to ALL the insurrectionists by pardoning them all, after he took his oath of office, again.

We can prepare for success now, and doing so will better ensure our success. Prepare now for Trump's third impeachment. Yes, we have practice now, and Trump has done more and worse. We know to change the rules in the Senate trial so that ballots are secret when voting to convict. We KNOW they are cowards, but then we have secrete ballot elections for a reason. This time hold nothing back, throw EVERYTHING at him. the ones with rock solid proof and the ones where his guilt can easily be inferred. Use things from BOTH administrations, including the Jan 6, since many senators declared they could not vote to convict because he was no longer in office... Ignore statute of limitations as he was not under any risk, to include the obstruction (while president) of the Mueller investigation. Include his countless lies to declare his lack of credibility. Include his trials to make clear he has a 'record' of prior crimes. Include the documents case, since he 'took' them while president. All the bribes and extortion and violations of laws (even when congress and SCOTUS refused to block him), his blatant repeated abuse of power. His obstruction on the Epstein case. Organize it all, publicly on a website, easy to read, no fundraising or overt political bias, just justice. So when we do take control in congress we can act with confidence, as promised, and remove Trump from office. JD will not have the same control of the base, and more likely to be manageable.
