Today is Friday, August 22, 2025, and this is your news and preview of today's show.
Former CIA official Ned Price is warning about Donald Trump’s interactions with Vladimir Putin. Price said Putin used manipulation and psychological tactics, leaving Trump aligned with the Kremlin instead of U.S. allies. He added that Trump inviting Putin to the U.S. reversed years of efforts to isolate Russia. Price warned Putin continues to stall in negotiations with Ukraine while advancing militarily.
Conservative media figures are reacting to California Governor Gavin Newsom’s national profile. Kellyanne Conway said Newsom’s online presence cannot compare to Trump’s. Dana Perino criticized Newsom’s use of social media, saying it could hurt him if he seeks higher office. In a Fox Business segment, Lydia Hu attempted to criticize Gavin Newsom’s redistricting efforts. In doing so, she described tactics often used by Republicans, such as gerrymandering in Texas and other states.
Former Vice President Mike Pence is urging Trump to act on Russia. He called for immediate Senate passage of secondary sanctions and warned Putin will only be stopped by strength. Pence noted Ukraine had agreed to a ceasefire, which Putin rejected.
Trump is also pushing to eliminate mail-in ballots and voting machines. If states follow his lead, voters could face fewer polling places, long lines, and restricted access, especially for young, Black, and working-class voters.
On the economy, prices have risen for businesses and consumers, particularly in agriculture and food industries. Economists say these effects are the result of policy choices rather than outside shocks.
