Today is Thursday, August 7, 2025, and this is your news and preview of today's show.

Trump advisor Kevin Hassett claims—without evidence—that the Bureau of Labor Statistics rigged jobs numbers to benefit President Obama. The allegation, widely dismissed by economists as baseless and politically motivated, comes on the heels of Trump firing the head of the BLS. It’s the latest in a series of attacks by Trump and his allies on the credibility of government institutions, part of a broader effort to discredit official data that contradicts their political narrative.

A UMass Amherst poll shows Trump's approval rating dropping significantly, with 58% of voters expressing disapproval and only 37% approving. Particularly alarming for the president is a sharp drop in support from male voters, a demographic he previously dominated.

The House Oversight Committee has issued subpoenas to Hillary and Bill Clinton, former FBI directors, and ex-attorneys general as part of a revived probe into Jeffrey Epstein. The Justice Department is required to turn over Epstein-related records by August 19th. Though a recent DOJ memo says no “client list” or blackmail material was found, Trump allies continue to claim a cover-up—despite Trump himself flying on Epstein’s jet and attending events with him.

In New York, mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is calling for a reset in Democratic messaging, arguing the party needs to clearly support progressive economic policies and reject triangulation. He warns that vague slogans and donor-friendly centrism are alienating working-class voters.

And finally, FEMA’s recent budget shift has sparked outrage after it was revealed that $300 million was quietly redirected to ICE enforcement efforts. The move, which took place as hurricane season intensifies, undermines the agency’s ability to respond to natural disasters and signals that the administration is prioritizing immigration crackdowns over climate preparedness.
