NRA Board Member Implodes on AR-15's & Trump Dancing
CNN’s Jim Acosta interviewed Judge Philip Journey, a board member of the National Rifle Association, about the recent mass shootings in Texas and New York. Acosta asked Journey if 18-year-olds should be able to own AR-15s with hundreds of rounds of ammunition. The judge, seemingly knowing it doesn’t make sense to say they should, deflected by saying, “these kinds of issues are far more complicated than whether we remove something from the public.” Acosta went on to ask Journey what he thought about Donald Trump dancing during his speech at the NRA convention. The board member outright denied that it happened, which prompted the CNN producers to play the video of Trump dancing on screen. The NRA would probably be better served sending someone other than Philip Journey to do these adversarial cable news interviews.
Trump Dances at Sick NRA Speech 3 Days After Mass Shooting
Former President Donald Trump spoke at the NRA convention over the weekend, just days after the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas that took the lives of 19 children and 2 teachers. While Trump should have canceled the appearance out of respect for those who lost their lives, instead he taunted the speakers who did back out and even did a little dance while the crowd was applauding him. During the speech, Trump said that schools should be the hardest targets for shooters to be able to go after, alluding to some type of high security prison-like environment for every school in America. He also gave lip service to the idea of allowing teachers to conceal carry, which the NRA loves since it would lead to more firearms purchases. People in other countries must have watched Trump’s NRA speech in horror, but sadly Americans are all too used to the former president’s antics and the idiotic right wing response to mass shootings in this country.
From over the weekend:
Trump-Endorsed Republican Football Player Completely Incoherent
There are now multiple instances of Georgia Senate candidate and former NFL player Herschel Walker being completely incoherent when asked about what to do about guns in the wake of the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas. CNN Reporter Manu Raju saw Walker at an event and asked him, “do you support any new gun laws in the wake of this Texas shooting?” Walker clearly didn’t like the question and tried to move on from it by saying, “what I like to do is see it and everything and stuff.” He then walked away. Herschel also went on Fox News and rambled on about solutions to school shootings creating a “department that can look at young men that’s looking at women that’s looking at social media.” As hard as it is to believe, by next year, Herschel Walker could be one of one hundred US senators if Democratic incumbent Raphael Warnock isn’t able to come out on top in this race.
From over the weekend:
They're Now Blaming Doors for the Shooting
Republicans are now blaming doors for mass shootings as a way to avoid having a conversation about adding gun control measures. Folks on the right have been arguing over the past week that one of the key reasons the Uvalde shooter was able to get into Robb Elementary School was that there were too many open doors. Texas Senator Ted Cruz gave an impassioned speech to reporters wherein he said, “we talked about what we need to do to harden schools including not having unlocked back doors, including not having unlocked doors to classrooms, having one door that goes in and out of the school, having armed police officers at that one door.” This isn’t a bad idea altogether (so long as people inside the school can still get out if there’s an emergency). But it’s clearly being used by the right to obfuscate around the core issue when it comes to mass shootings and that is guns themselves and easy access to them.
