Republicans PANIC that Trump's arrests will destroy them
Senate Republicans are worried that the ongoing legal troubles of former President Donald Trump could backfire on their party in the 2024 elections. They fear that Trump's multiple arrests and media dominance may alienate swing voters, especially suburban women, jeopardizing their chances of regaining the Senate and protecting their House majority. The concerns were highlighted in an article titled “GOP fears Trump legal woes will boomerang on them” by Alexander Bolton in The Hill. While some believe Trump's legal issues would only impact the primary race, there are two key problems with this narrow perspective. Firstly, if Trump collapses in the primary and another candidate like Ron DeSantis emerges, it could weaken the Republican nominee against Joe Biden in the general election. Secondly, the circus-like atmosphere surrounding Trump's legal battles, including conflicting views on pardoning him, could create broader challenges for Republican senators and representatives seeking reelection. Although there are no concrete data on this, the fears appear sensible given the potential impact on voter turnout.
UH-OH: Biden leads Trump by 4 in new poll
A recent poll indicates that Joe Biden is leading Donald Trump by four points in a hypothetical 2024 general election. The poll from Quinnipiac University shows Biden leading Trump, 46% to 44%. The survey shows a decline of two points in Trump's support since the last poll conducted in late May. Other polls provide different results, with one suggesting a tie between Biden and Trump among registered voters and another showing Biden leading Trump by four points. This tight margin raises major concerns, especially knowing that Biden can lose the electoral college even if he does narrowly win the popular vote. This polling comes at a time when Biden keeps adding to his list of accomplishments and Trump keeps racking up criminal charges. However, the contrast isn’t enough for voters to fall more commandingly in the Biden camp. There’s still a long way to go before the 2024 election, but at this point, it looks like anyone’s race.
From yesterday’s show:
Fox doesn't even want to hear the truth from Chris Christie
Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie appeared on Fox News and criticized Trump's unfulfilled promises, including the border wall and getting Mexico to pay for it. The Fox hosts did not seem to like the pushback, signaling the network may be getting back in allegiance to Trump. Christie said, “Remember what he promised in 2016. He was going to build a wall across the entire border in his first four years and Mexico was going to pay for it. Well, we got a wall that's about a quarter of the way done. And Mexico hasn’t given us one peso yet.” Christie is certainly a more moderate and intelligent Republican compared to other candidates. He’s also the only one so far who has been willing to seriously attack Trump, while the rest continue to defend him.
From yesterday’s show:
REPUBLICAN CHAOS: Miami Mayor now running for President
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has announced his bid for the 2024 Republican presidential race, challenging former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Suarez's entry into the race brings some intriguing elements. As a Hispanic candidate, he aims to tap into Hispanic voters. Being from Florida, Suarez hopes to gain traction in the state, even though that may prove challenging with DeSantis also in the race. Suarez positions himself as a moderate with technocratic leanings, endorsing policies like cryptocurrencies. However, has faced scrutiny for alleged corruption involving payments received while serving as mayor. Perhaps this run isn’t actually about winning, since Suarez is a total longshot, but it’s actually about securing political appointments or pursuing other roles in media or consulting. Qualifying for the presidential debate stage will prove crucial for him, as he’ll surely enter the race at the bottom of the pack.

RE: Republicans vs. Democrats: Here’s a little nugget [per “The Best and The Brightest” by David Halberstam]: When President Kennedy took office in January 1961, he assembled a BIPARTISAN cabinet. He both respected and admired the Republicans, and he wanted to sit down with them and listen to their ideas. He wanted to learn. And nobody was fired or publicly humiliated. In turn, there was mutual respect and admiration. Fast forward to 62 years later. JFK’s legacy was left swinging in the wind.
