Trump wildly accuses Joe Bide of co*aine use, horrifies world
Failed former President Donald Trump is wildly alleging that President Joe Biden may be using cocaine. The claim was made on Trump's new social media platform, Truth Social, following speculation by right-wing media about cocaine found in the White House visitor's area. He posted, “Was Crooked Joe Biden on Cocaine when he instructed the FBI/DOJ to illegally invade my home, Mar-a-Lago, in complete and total violation of my 4th Amendment Rights? Was he on Cocaine, or various other substances, when he, for the first time in U.S. history, had his political opponent, who is leading him in the Polls by a lot, indicted and arrested (twice, if you include the DOJ run Manhattan D.A.’s Office)? WE ARE A NATION IN DECLINE!!!” Trump’s post shows a contradiction between claims he makes about Biden lacking energy and being sleepy, while also supposedly doing cocaine. The claims are totally unsubstantiated, but Trump’s words will likely work to convince some portion of his followers to believe that cocaine found in the White House is proof of the president’s drug use.
America in shambles: Republican Senator defends white nationalists
Senator Tommy Tuberville's interview on CNN's with Kaitlan Collins provided some horrifying insights into the right’s relationship with white nationalism. During the interview, Collins called out Tuberville's previous comments that “white nationalists are Americans,” painting them in a positive light, and despite the opportunity to clarify his stance, he only made the situation worse. The senator tried to distinguish being a white nationalist from being racist, even though the connection cannot be undone. He said, “Now, if racism is one of those beliefs, I'm totally against it. I am totally against racism. But there's a lot of people that believe in everything is racist.” This is Tommy Tuberville attempting to equate opposition to white nationalists with identity politics and dismissing real concerns. The main tenets of white nationalism include making racial threats, the pursuit of a white-only state, and claims of white superiority. Tuberville asserting he’s against racism does not eradicate the inherent racism within this movement. But he likely feels pressured out of apologizing or backtracking, given Donald Trump has shown that right-wingers respond better to doubling down and dialing up the rhetoric.
From yesterday’s show:
BRUTAL: Gavin Newsom says Fox News causes mental illness
During a recent MSNBC interview, California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized right-wing media outlets like Fox News, attributing them to contributing to the mental health crisis by promoting misinformation, fear-mongering, and polarization. He mentioned the role of Fox News, Newsmax, and personalities like Tucker Carlson in shaping perceptions and dividing the country. Newsom admitted to regularly watching Fox News to understand opposing views and that his staff has expressed concerns about his obsession with it. There is a real possibility that Governor Newsom is correct about exposure to misinformation impacting viewers' mental well-being, leading to anxiety, confusion, and distrust. Studies have shown a link between media consumption and mental health outcomes, but it would be interesting to see the specific effect of right-wing propaganda on the brain.
From yesterday’s show:
Clarence Thomas corruption explodes, accepted EVEN MORE gifts
We’re learning more about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas receiving undisclosed gifts from wealthy individuals and it’s raising concerns about the lack of checks and balances on the high court. Thomas has reportedly enjoyed lavish vacations and financial support for a documentary about his life from his connections in the Horatio Alger Association. This situation underscores the need for ethics reform, transparency requirements, clearer guidelines for recusal, and limitations on accepting potentially conflicting gifts. Some argue for court-packing as a solution, but there are concerns about the long-term implications and the potential for further expansions under Republican administrations. Instead, proposals for term limits and balanced representation by including justices from diverse legal backgrounds could be an obtainable goal that both parties could agree on.
