Ron DeSantis Total Collapse, Brain Malfunctions at Debate
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was no match for Democratic challenger Charlie Crist in their debate last night. Both candidates came out swinging yesterday, with the sense of urgency really being on Crist who’s down by an RCP average of ten percentage points in the polls. One effective technique Crist used during the debate was to point out that DeSantis doesn’t appear committed to serving a full four-year term and that he’s angling to run for president in 2024. At one point, Charlie asked the governor whether he’d commit to serving all four years, and DeSantis simply refused to answer. This upset Ron so much that he responded, “well listen, I know that Charlie’s interested in talking about 2024 and Joe Biden but I just want to make things very very clear, the only worn-out old donkey that I’m looking to take out to pasture is Charlie Crist. The back and forths continued all night in what was perhaps the most entertaining debate so far in the 2022 midterm cycle.
Trump Voters Interviewed, DISASTER
MSNBC interviewed Pittsburgh-area Trump voters in the lead-up to next month’s midterms and it gave a fascinating insight into the minds of people who like the former president. For starters, the anchor asked if it was okay that Republican gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano was at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Instinctively, one of the voters brought up the talking point that he was probably allowed to be there because there are videos of Capitol police officers letting people into the building. As the conversation went on, other right-wing spun talking points about January 6th were offered up, including that the rioting started before Trump finished his speech at the Ellipse, so he couldn’t have incited it. Another guy said that Democrats are using the insurrection as their “Reichstag fire.” As harebrained as these talking points come across, they’re effective at conditioning those who reside in these right-wing echo-chambers.

Democrats COLLAPSING in House and Senate Polls, Debt Forgiveness Blocked
Democrats’ chances of holding the House and Senate are dwindling in the final two weeks before the 2022 midterms. While Dems went into the year as underdogs to hold Congress, they significantly improved their chances over the summer, particularly following the overturning of Roe vs. Wade. But now, the outlook is a lot grimmer. In the House of Representatives, Democrats have only a 19% chance of holding the majority according to FiveThirtyEight. The situation is much better in the Senate, but still far worse than it was just six weeks ago. Dems currently have a 55% chance of holding the majority which is heading into coin-flip territory. One news event that may play a role over the next two weeks is the temporary blockage of Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness, which the polls that are soon to come out will take into account.
From yesterday’s show:
Trump Adviser Steve Bannon Sentenced to 4 Months in Jail
Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon has been sentenced to four months in jail after being found guilty of contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena. Members of the House January 6th committee wanted to hear from Bannon about the former president’s involvement in the January 6th attacks on the Capitol. Bannon assessed that it would be better for his reputation and his brand to be prosecuted instead of complying with the committee. In addition to the jail sentence, Bannon has been ordered to pay a fine of $6,500. He will not be put behind bars immediately, however, as US District Judge Carl Nichols has allowed Bannon to remain free while the appeals process plays out. This sentence is unlikely to teach Steve any sort of lesson since the money is insignificant to him and the jail sentence is short and may not end up happening at all.
