Trump Facing CRIMINAL Charges Per Trump Riot Committee
Last night, the January 6th congressional committee laid out in clear terms the possible criminal charges that could be brought against Donald Trump. While members of the House cannot press charges themselves, they can refer the matter over to the Department of Justice for consideration. The committee found that there is enough evidence to bring possible charges against Trump and his allies for fraud and obstruction for their work in trying to deceive Americans about the outcome of the 2020 election and attempts to overturn its results. Lawyers for the committee wrote in a court filing, “evidence and information available to the Committee establishes a good-faith belief that Mr. Trump and others may have engaged in criminal and/or fraudulent acts, and that Plaintiff's legal assistance was used in furtherance of those activities.” There is still a long way to go if charges are going to be pressed against the former president. Even if Trump is indicted, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be found guilty and even if he’s found guilty, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll end up in prison. But the outlook keeps looking worse and worse for the ex-POTUS.
Reports: Crying Russian Soldiers Surrendering All Over Ukraine
A number of factors point to Russia slowly winning the war against Ukraine. Yesterday, Russian forces took over the first major Ukrainian city — Kherson. However, there are other reasons to believe that Ukraine is holding its own. One report suggests that Russian soldiers are surrendering in Ukraine, wishing to not be a part of the conflict. Many in the Russian military are young conscripts who have never faced combat and are highly risk averse, giving up without much of a fight. Some weren’t told that they would be facing combat and simply don’t believe in the cause. Making matters worse for the soldiers, Russia seemingly did a horrible job planning out the logistics of the war, and with not enough gas and food, many Russian soldiers are being left to fight cold and hungry. The sheer size of the Russian military means they still could very well take over Ukraine, but it’s not going to be nearly as easy as many predicted.

Mitch McConnell Refuses to Condemn Trump Calling Putin "Smart" & "Genius"
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell passed on another opportunity to criticize former President Donald Trump. At the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Trump said he was against the action but referred to what Vladimir Putin was doing as “smart,” “savvy,” and “genius.” McConnell was asked by a reporter about this, “was it a mistake for the former president to praise Putin as very savvy, smart — his Ukraine strategy as genius?” McConnell didn’t take the bait and avoided mentioning Trump specifically in his answer. He instead responded, “what President Putin is is a ruthless thug who’s just invaded another sovereign country and killed thousands of innocent people.” McConnell has been held prisoner to Trump ever since Trump won the Republican nomination in 2016. For a brief moment following the January 6, 2021 insurrection, McConnell felt okay with criticism of him. But ever since, he’s learned his lesson, realizing it’s not the politically advantageous thing to do if he wants to keep his position as leader of the Senate Republicans.
From yesterday’s show:
Why Do So Many American Right-Wingers Love Putin?
As Russian aggression has escalated over the past few weeks, culminating in a full-on invasion, many in the audience have been asking why so many right-wingers in America appear to have an affinity for Vladimir Putin. The truth is that Putin is an authoritarian leader who resents free elections and a free press. This is true of the American right-wing as well, as many of them were supportive of overturning the 2020 election so that Donald Trump could stay in power and many decry reporting that upsets them as “fake news.” The Russian leader also has a view on the subjugation of women and LGBT folks that is similar to Republicans today. Fueling all of this is four years of a Trump presidency where Putin was praised at every turn by the leader of the Republican Party, even siding with him over US intelligence agencies. All of these factors create a perfect storm explaining why so many on the right, at least up until the invasion of Ukraine, have liked what Vladimir Putin is doing.
