Trump Suggests Clinton Operatives Be Put to Death
Donald Trump released an “official statement” over the weekend where he suggests that in previous eras, it would have been appropriate to put Hillary Clinton’s operatives to death over spurious allegations of spying on the Trump campaign in 2016. Last week, court filings revealed that in 2016, Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussman paid tech companies to mine internet data with the intention of finding a connection between Trump and Russia. Trump subsequently released a statement reading that “the latest pleading from Special Counsel Robert Durham provides indisputable evidence that my campaign and presidency were spied on by operatives paid by the Hillary Clinton Campaign . . .” Trump went on to say, “in a stronger period of time in our country, this crime would have been punishable by death.” Trump is willing to suggest executing his political opponents because he’s gotten away with so much already, and he knows that this will just be another blip on the radar. In a sane world, this type of statement from a former president would be universally condemned.
Trump Says His Presidency Was "Romantic, Glamorous" in Unhinged Interview
Donald Trump spent the weekend doing phone interviews with Fox & Friends and Wayne Allyn Root. During the Fox appearance, Trump was asked about Maggie Haberman’s story that he flushed sensitive documents down the White House toilet. The ex-POTUS responded, “it’s a totally false story, she made it up. I don’t believe they have sources. Who’s going to be a source for that anyway? Who would know that? There’s no source. They make it up.” Of course, the answer to Trump’s question would be White House staffers who get called up to unclog the toilet. During the Wayne Allyn Root appearance, Trump was asked whether he’d be open to Congress electing him Speaker if Republicans take back control of the House in 2022. He said in a jumbled response, “I hope we don’t need it. Because what should happen is the plan we’re on now and I think a plan that’s going to make people very very happy we’ll be announcing some time later and that’s really what should happen.” It’s not totally clear what Trump meant to say here, but the implication was that he has no interest in becoming House Speaker because he plans on running for president again in 2024.
From over the weekend:
Joe Rogan Says Taking His Vaccine Advice Isn't Smart
In light of the recent controversies surrounding Joe Rogan, the comedian and podcast host has been defending himself by saying that taking his advice on vaccines and the pandemic isn’t wise. Rogan performed at an Austin, Texas comedy club last week and said to the audience, “I talk sh*t for a living — that’s why this is so baffling to me. If you’re taking vaccine advice from me, is that really my fault? What dumb sh*t were you about to do when my stupid idea sounded better?” It’s at least good that Rogan is self-aware that his opinions should not be taken as medical advice, especially since he has no training or experience in the field. However, it’s naïve to think he can leave such a tiny disclaimer and expect nobody in his audience of millions of people to not follow what he’s saying. We already know about several people taking advice based on what they heard from Rogan and his show, including Aaron Rodgers, Dana White, and Tim Pool. Chances are, countless everyday people are doing the same and it could be to their detriment.
From over the weekend:
Trump OUT OF HIS MIND Triggered by Mitch McConnell "Violent Insurrection" Video
Last week, Donald Trump responded to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell calling the events of January 6th a “violent insurrection.” Many Republicans have been trying to use revisionist history surrounding the events that day, but McConnell has held firm that January 6, 2021 was a dark day in American history. He said during a recent press conference, “it was a violent insurrection with the purpose of trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election from one administration to the next.” Trump released a statement about McConnell’s remarks that read in part, “Mitch McConnell does not speak for the Republican Party, and does not represent the views of the vast majority of its voters. He did nothing to fight for his constituents and stop the most fraudulent election in American history.” This difference of messaging highlights the fissure that still very much exists between the establishment and Trumpian wings of the Republican Party. It remains to be seen which side will be in control of the GOP by the time the 2024 presidential election rolls around.
