Fox Reporter Asks Dumbest Question in History of Journalism
Yesterday, President Biden held his first press conference in months, and he covered a number of topics including the state of the pandemic, the economy, and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Many on the right were criticizing Biden for going some time without doing a press conference and now that he’s done one, they’re shifting the goal posts to saying the president was droning on and that the presser was too long. Perhaps the highlight from the event was when Peter Doocy from Fox News asked Biden a question that may have been the dumbest in the history of journalism. Doocy asked the president, “why are you trying so hard in your first year to pull the country so far to the left?” Biden followed up by chuckling and saying that he’s not pushing the country to the left, then reviewing his accomplishments like passing the COVID relief package and the bipartisan infrastructure deal. While it’s not true that Biden has “pulled the country so far to the left,” and many progressives wish he was actually doing that, Fox viewers will come away from this thinking Doocy’s premise was a correct one.
Trump Wildly Triggered by Biden Press Conference
Donald Trump responded to Joe Biden’s two-hour press conference yesterday and he found it extraordinarily triggering. Trump put out a statement through his Save America PAC reading, “how come Biden picks a reporter off a list, in all cases softball questions, and then reads the answer? I would never have been allowed to get away with that, nor would I have to!” Trump also spoke to right-wing radio host Mark Levin about the presser and said it was a shame Biden didn’t talk about crime and the southern border. The former president also had some choice words for the reporters, saying they are too friendly to Biden and should have criticized him for saying to expect Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine. Trump said, “they don’t even ask questions. They make positive statements and then sit down.” What seems to really be upsetting Trump about this press event was that it’s someone else who’s in charge now taking the questions and not him.
From yesterday’s show:
Republican Says Trump Admitted Riot Responsibility
Audio has been released of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy from a week after the January 6th Capitol riots talking about the culpability that Donald Trump had in the attacks. He said that the ex-president admitted to playing a part in what took place that day and mentioned it would be proper to have a congressional investigation into the events. McCarthy said, “I say he has responsibility. He told me personally that he does have some responsibility. I think a lot of people do. . . . I believe — have a bipartisan commission and get all your facts, actually work through the grand jury to find out at the end, instead of predetermining whether someone’s guilty or not.” When asked a year later about the audio, the Republican leader said he didn’t remember saying it. As more distance has grown from the day of the riots when the lives of members of Congress were put into jeopardy, many of these Republican politicians have forgiven Trump and pretended this all never happened. McCarthy too has had to make that shift because he knows Trump still commands control of the voter base of the Republican Party.
From yesterday’s show:
Trump Starts Ron DeSantis 2024 Smear Campaign
Donald Trump is back in campaign mode and he’s trying his best to keep Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in check and prevent him from launching a presidential campaign of his own in 2024. According to reporting from Axios, Trump is attacking Ron DeSantis in private discussions, saying he has a "dull personality” with no chance of beating him in a Republican primary. The ex-POTUS has thrown a number of veiled jabs at DeSantis in recent weeks, hinting it was wrong for the Florida governor to play coy about his vaccination status and claiming he would be nowhere today without Trump’s endorsement. While Trump comes out on top in polls about who Republicans want as their nominee for president in 2024, DeSantis is not far behind. Roger Stone is now doing Trump’s dirty work, saying DeSantis was “an unknown congressman with a bad haircut, an ill-fitting suit, and an undistinguished record in Congress.” Hopefully, the battle between Trump and DeSantis heats up over the next year or two, as that would be a fascinating showdown to observe and likely help Democrats in the general election.
