CIVIL WAR: Mitch McConnell Abandons RNC, Calls Jan 6 "Violent Insurrection"
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is abandoning the talking points of the Republican National Committee and referring to the events of January 6, 2021 as a “violent insurrection.” McConnell was asked about the Capitol riots and said, “we all were here, we saw it happen. It was a violent insurrection with the purpose of trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election from one administration to the next.” This certainly does not make Mitch McConnell a hero, and ultimately, he chose not to convict Trump in his second impeachment trial when given the opportunity. However, it’s at least a positive that he’s accepting the reality of what January 6th was and not giving in to revisionist history and the pressures of Trump and the RNC. So far, the former president has not responded to McConnell’s words, but we can expect a statement to be coming from Trump’s office criticizing the Kentucky senator any moment now.
Trump & Right Wing Media TURN on Joe Rogan for Apologizing
Joe Rogan has apologized for his controversies surrounding COVID disinformation and his use of racial slurs, and this is causing many of his right-wing allies to turn on him. Early on in this controversy, conservatives defended Rogan for putting out “alternative” content about vaccines and banded with him to fight off so-called left-wing cancel culture. But now that Rogan has apologized, the right is upset with him. Donald Trump put out a statement saying in part, “he’s got to stop apologizing to the Fake News and Radical Left maniacs and lunatics.” Conservative media piled on. Steven Crowder said, “I was upset. I was angry with Joe as well.” Steve Bannon said, “note to Joe Rogan: The more you grovel, the more episodes they are going to take down,” referring to the podcast service Spotify. Glenn Beck said, “Joe — never apologize.” It’ll be interesting now to see whether this causes the right to turn on Rogan indefinitely or if they are just taking this as a brief opportunity to criticize him.
From yesterday’s show:
Struggling to Breathe Marjorie Taylor Greene Rants About "Mask"
Marjorie Taylor Greene delivered a bizarre rant about masks on the floor of the House this week. The congresswoman appeared to be out of breath during the entire speech, but the stranger thing was how she kept referring to “mask” when the grammar called for her to use the plural form “masks.” She started out the monologue by saying, “Mr. Speaker, I’d like to talk about how children feel about mask.” She went on to say, “while [children] see concerts happen, they see people go to work, they see adults going many places all over this country without mask, they are forced to wear mask every single day at school, and it’s wrong. Actually, it’s child abuse.” Many of Greene’s peculiar pronunciations can be explained by her accent. However in this case, an accent doesn’t explain away why she would repeatedly say “mask” instead of “masks.”
From yesterday’s show:
Do Democrats Have ANY Good Candidates if Biden Doesn't Run?
Democrats could be in serious trouble in the 2024 presidential election cycle. Joe Biden will be going on 82 years old on Election Day 2024 and this is causing many to suspect that he may need to step aside after serving just one term. If indeed this is the case, the natural successor to the Democratic nomination would be Vice President Kamala Harris. However, Harris has struggled to get her approval rating up. It currently sits at 39% according to Gallup, which is lower than the previous four VPs at this stage of their tenure. That’s not to say these numbers can’t recover and that she can’t win a general election, but it would certainly be an uphill battle. Some are circulating the idea of bringing Hillary Clinton back, which would likely fail to inspire the energy necessary to pull off a win. Bernie Sanders would be 83 years old and has already had two failed attempts. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez would be just barely old enough to become president, leading many to write her off as too young. Plus, she’s already a polarizing figure. Democrats will need to do some serious soul searching over the next two years to figure out who the 2024 nominee will be if indeed Biden chooses not to run again.
