DeSantis is losing steam, will he still run for president?
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis faces a conundrum as he contemplates challenging Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. DeSantis gained prominence as an anti-woke anti-CRT culture war advocate, which led him to be a popular choice for running for president. He also built himself up as having a reputation as a winner since he was easily reelected in 2022 when so many Trumpian candidates lost their races. However, the recent indictment of Trump has led to the former president soaring in the primary polling and he’s now built a commanding lead over DeSantis. The Florida governor may be best served to wait until 2028 or 2032 to run for president once Trump is no longer in the picture. However, this could also make DeSantis look weak and contradict the reputation he has built as a fighter. Ron is now boxed into a corner and it could spell disaster for his presidential ambitions.
Things are about to get A LOT worse for Donald Trump
The recent indictment of Donald Trump in the Stormy Daniels hush money payment case is likely just the beginning of the former president’s legal troubles. The investigation out of Georgia looking into whether Trump committed election fraud when he pressured Brad Raffensperger into finding him 11,780 votes is wrapping up soon and more charges could be coming Trump’s way. The Fulton County District Attorney in Georgia is expected to announce in the coming weeks whether she will file charges against Trump and his allies for their efforts to overturn the state's 2020 presidential election results. Trump could end up facing charges in no fewer than four separate criminal investigations by the summer's end. While the indictment from the Stormy Daniels case represents a legal threat, the others may carry a greater risk of serious consequences, including possible prison sentences.

AOC: It's time to impeach Clarence Thomas
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez has called for the impeachment of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas over his failure to disclose luxury trips paid for by a Republican megadonor. ProPublica reported last week that Thomas had been vacationing on a 162-foot super yacht and flying on a Bombardier Global 5000 jet paid for by right-wing billionaire Harlan Crow. These trips put Thomas in contact with corporate executives and political activists, violating federal disclosure laws and ethical obligations as a justice. Thomas has responded, stating that the trips were not reportable because they were personal hospitality from close friends who did not have business before the court. However, AOC argues that this response is insufficient and that Thomas should face impeachment. Unfortunately, Republicans control the House of Representatives, making it unlikely that Thomas will be held accountable for this.

SICKENING: Right-wing judge seeks to ban abortion pills
Two federal judges have issued conflicting rulings that could significantly affect access to a drug commonly used in medication abortions in the United States. The first ruling, by U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk in Texas, claims that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) improperly approved the abortion pill, Mifepristone, over 20 years ago, and issued a nationwide injunction that pauses the FDA's approval of the drug. The second ruling, by U.S. District Judge Thomas Price in Washington State, blocks the FDA from altering the status quo and rights relating to the availability of Mifepristone. The FDA cannot comply with both orders and Kacsmaryk's order, which covers all 50 states, guarantees that access to the drug will be suspended temporarily in much of the country. The Justice Department has appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth District, which has a reputation for being conservative. This issue could further impact access to abortion in the United States, especially since the conservative Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year.
