Trump Rally Goes Horribly Wrong, Half of Crowd Leaves
Donald Trump held a couple of rallies over the weekend, including one in Pennsylvania which is where crucial Senate and gubernatorial elections are taking place tomorrow. Trump flew in on his newly rehabbed airplane funded by his supporters. One of the headlines from Trump’s speech was from when he referred to Ron DeSantis as “Ron DeSanctimonious.” Previously, Trump had been more coy with how he referred to the Florida governor, who’s quickly becoming a top political rival of his. Perhaps this wasn’t taken well, because during the next day’s rally in Florida, he encouraged everyone to reelect DeSantis as their governor. Also during the PA speech, Trump lied about the state Supreme Court ruling that the 2020 election was “not right.” In fact, what the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled is that undated ballots in the 2022 primaries were invalid. Of course, Trump had no reservations with lying about this, and his supporters didn’t know any better.
We Interviewed Trump Supporters, Goes HORRIBLY WRONG
TDPS correspondent Luke Beasley was on the ground at the Trump rally in Latrobe, Pennsylvania over the weekend and got some fascinating interviews with Trumpists. Luke spoke to a couple of women, and the two had peculiar theories as to who the current president is. One said Trump is the current president and “he’ll be back any day under military.” Luke astutely pointed out that Trump and the right wing have been criticizing the Biden administration. “So [Trump’s] to blame for inflation?” he asked, to which they responded “no” which was incredibly confusing and clearly an attempt to have it both ways. Then Luke confronted a couple and asked them if they agree with Republican candidates who claim the only way they could lose would be because of fraud. A woman responded in agreement, saying, “I definitely think it was stolen. I always think that. They can tell me it’s a lie and I’ll never believe that it was legit.” The woman followed up by saying there was no evidence that could be presented to her that would change her mind on the topic. These people are unhinged and often incoherent but they’ll also be voting in tomorrow’s midterms which means we all have to do the same.
From over the weekend:
Marjorie Taylor Greene: It's OK That I'm Crazy Because So Are My Supporters
Marjorie Taylor Greene appeared on a local television show in Georgia called “Night Talk” and made the case that it’s okay that she believes something completely bonkers because her supporter base feels the same way. The context was that Greene was asked about the legitimacy of the 2020 election. She responded, “I am always proud to support President Trump, Judy. I'm so grateful for the way he led our country with his America First policies. I miss him very much being our president, and so do a lot of people. And I do. I say all the time. I really feel like he won the state of Georgia and I do think he won the 2020 election. But do you want to know something? It's okay for me to say that because a lot of people feel the same way.” Of course, MTG doesn’t have any evidence to back up her “feelings” and just because a bunch of people believe something, that doesn’t make it true.
From over the weekend:
Trump Off the Rails in Bonkers Orange Interview
Donald Trump did an interview on the right-wing Spanish language platform “Americano,” and he gave some ultra-wacky responses. Trump was asked about the importance of his Truth Social platform and what it means for free speech. He said, “I had hundreds of millions of people between Facebook and Twitter, more than just about anybody else. And all of a sudden, one day you don't have your voice anymore. And I created Truth Social. And it's been amazingly successful.” Of course, left out from the conversation is that Trump was kicked off sites like Facebook and Twitter because he incited an insurrection and there was concern about how much more violence he could cause. Trump then tried appealing specifically to the Spanish-speaking community that watches this network, saying, “if we don't straighten this country out you're going to end up — you are literally going to end up with a Venezuela on steroids, meaning a bigger version of Venezuela. And that's where our country is going.” It’s hard to believe this rhetoric can have an effect on people but sadly there’s no shortage of people who are convinced by it.

If the Republicans take both houses there will be civil war in the US within four years. We believe that the "land of the free" is a slogan bought by US soldiers in at least two wars & it is all in a flux.
I am so glad I live in New Zealand which although we have right wing radicals it is nowhere near as bad as in the US.
