Since this administration is the veritable poster child for corruption you are dead on. I fully support this and hope the dems pick up on this and run with it. I especially admire the no trading amd no lobbying positions. These things are a long time coming and far overdue. We, as you stated, need accountability and l, while im a die hard democrat, we need it to apply broadly and without bias. Great article articulating something, I feel, we have all been thinking.

An excellent summation. Thank you!

I would only add Supreme Court reform to your list: At a minimum, we need an enforceable code of ethics for them.

TOTALLY AGREE, SUSAN!

I appreciate your article, but I disagree with your assertion that this is the issue. If leading an insurrection on the capitol, deploying ICE to our streets, illegally imposing tariffs, blowing up boats in the Caribbean, starting an illegal war on Iran, denying due process to people snatched from their homes and off the street, and many other unconstitutional and illegal actions, too numerous to list, didn't cost Trump and his Republican enablers to lose support, running on an anti-corruption platform won't do it either.

The MAGA line is ways that they are directly harmed by Donald. They otherwise interpret his lawlessness as strength, willing to reject and revolt against the lawful boundaries. The BBB changes affecting them won't be enacted until 2027. That is when they will find their benefits cut.

Brilliant!

Now how do we get the Dem politicians to follow your lead on this?

One thing that's been harped on for years is campaign reform and getting big money and corporations as 'people' out of our government. As well as billionaires needing to pay their fair share. This has yet to be achieved. It's also a problem that Maga knows that Trump is corrupt. They know he is a criminal. They know he is a liar. They know he's in the Epstein files. But that does not sway them to leave their cult. Or stop worshipping him. This is a great idea but might be harder to achieve than one might think.

A very very good point and one that needs to be addressed. As with the Epstein Files both sides of the aisles are likely to be named. I'm a Democrat and its time to have a clear out of our government. Publish and be damned!

Absolutely correct and oh so important for the Dems to follow. I hope this strong and careful message gets appropriately received by the Dems in charge of messaging.

BRAVO & GRACIAS

Is it possible, surgically, to implant a spine? Other than that.....these politicians have shown no courage. Nothing, nada, bupkis. The dems are only willing to write semi-sternly worded memos. We might just be fkd.

Democrats need to also be serious and proactive about cleaning up their own house/party on the topic of corruption at all levels. It can't be pointed at Republicans alone (that seemed to be the case in the article about this). Every elected official across all parties or caucuses. What applies to one, must apply to all across the board equally. Can't be, Do as I Say, Not as I Do. Otherwise the bulk of the article is so 'right on'. And who knows, maybe election finance reform might just follow!

The problem with this is Democrats would need to give up corruption for themselves too.

Corruption has always existed, but those who are corrupt often have the money to prevent legislation. Good message, especially with folks using insider information to play the prediction markets. And, that just a small part of it. Corruption within the government is rampant (and bribes are, now, OK). How about getting rid of Citizens United, for a start?

David, you should run for office. You’d have my vote.

Corruption is the hallmark of autocracy - how did Xi , putin et al get to have amassed large fortunes? corruption and abuse of power to self-enrich is crudely blatant now. When Nuremburg 2.0 happens these corrupt scalliwags should find corruption is the devil's powder.

The trumplettes I know don’t care about Deplorable Don’s corruption. If I mention it, they always say (after the yelling and some insults) that nobody was more corrupt than Biden. And they cheer on ICE, are completely blind to the trump/Epstein crimes, are confused about tariffs, support Deranged Don’s war, don’t believe the attack on our Capitol actually happened, think Despicable Don was wrongly convicted of all those felonies, and know nothing about all the stolen top secret documents that were left laying around inside the orange palace. They are truly a cult that only want to keep their false idol in power.
