The slow coup grows as Trump makes major announcement, unexpected confrontation

We’re seeing a slow-moving paperwork coup under Donald Trump, not the violent January 6 type, but one that is just as dangerous. The government is paralyzed with Congress nonfunctional, a shutdown looming, and Trump making unilateral decisions. He is firing civil servants, spending money without approval, and taking military actions without authorization.
CBS’s Margaret Brennan asked Hakeem Jeffries a “both sides” question equating Trump’s false election claims with Democrats addressing gerrymandering. Jeffries rightly explained they are not the same. Structural voting restrictions are not morally or logistically equivalent to election denial or baseless machine fraud claims. The problem is media fear of antagonizing power, which leads to false equivalencies.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent struggled in an interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker, unable to account for rising grocery prices despite Trump’s repeated promises they would fall. He dismissed concrete figures as “cherry picking” while claiming to share farmers’ struggles, even though he has a $600 million net worth and an employee-managed farm.
Trump revealed he had an MRI at Walter Reed and described the results as “perfect.” A full-body MRI seems unlikely given the short duration of his visit. Speculation about the reason for the scan includes possible minor stroke concerns, based on unexplained absences, bruises, swollen ankles, and eye issues.
Trump went on Air Force One to brag about passing a dementia screening while mocking AOC and Jasmine Crockett for low IQ. He floated a third term and claimed he would lower grocery prices while protecting farmers despite previous tariffs that harmed them.
Trump posted dangerous medical advice on Truth Social, suggesting MMR vaccines be split, Hepatitis B delayed, and shots spread across five visits. None of this is supported by science or CDC guidance and it could reduce vaccine compliance and put children at risk.
Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino gave a confusing explanation of citizen documentation, implying citizens both do and do not need papers. His statements revealed profiling based on language and appearance. He now faces a federal judge for allegedly violating court orders.
Recent polling shows Republicans face a potentially disastrous midterm. Farmers are skeptical, prices are rising, and Trump’s obsession with legacy and control of the House could drive aggressive moves to influence the outcome.
