One week from today, my new book, Pay Attention, will officially be out in the world.
First, I want to say thank you.
So many of you have already pre-ordered the book, shared it with friends and family, or sent me incredibly kind messages about it. I’ve been working on this for a long time, and seeing that support as we get closer to release has meant a lot to me.
I also have one final favor to ask.
If you’ve been thinking about getting a copy but haven’t ordered yet, pre-ordering before the release makes the biggest difference.
Pre-orders help determine how many copies bookstores stock, how much attention a book gets when it launches, and whether it has a real shot at making the bestseller lists. A strong final week can have an enormous impact.
Pay Attention is about the media environment we are all living in right now: how algorithms decide what gets amplified, how outrage and misinformation are rewarded, and how the competition for our attention is changing not just what we see, but how we think about politics, news, and the world around us.
I’ve spent more than 20 years working in independent media and have watched these incentives change in real time. This book is my attempt to make sense of where we are, how we got here, and what we can actually do about it.
So if you were planning to order Pay Attention eventually, I would be incredibly grateful if you would consider doing it before release day next week.
Note: We still have some signed copies available. If we run out, I will go back and sign more. But make sure to pre-order ASAP if you want to get a signed copy.
And whether you pre-order the book or not, thank you for being here. Supporting this show, subscribing, watching, listening, sharing our work, and supporting independent media in all the ways you do is what makes everything we do possible.
I don’t take any of it for granted.
Thank you.
