Trump has major cognitive episode during scary rally
Donald Trump held a rally over the weekend in Claremont, New Hampshire and he managed to display evidence of apparent cognitive decline, marked by confusion about Barack Obama's presidency and whether he was indicted over the New York fraud case. These gaffes propelled discussions about his mental faculties into mainstream media and even among Republican challengers. The dystopian and authoritarian event featured Trump making false claims suggesting that VA officials could legally murder veterans before his presidency and adopting language reminiscent of Adolf Hitler. Amidst these concerning moments, there was a rare humorous instance when Trump joked about Ron DeSantis's high heels. The overall rally not only underscored Trump's authoritarian tendencies but also heightened worries about his cognitive abilities, transforming the issue from an obscure YouTube topic to a significant mainstream concern garnering media attention.
Trump lawyer DISASTER, says Don Jr & Eric are "boys" & "kids"
Donald Trump’s attorney Alina Habba is drawing criticism for her stunning incompetence in handling the ex-president’s New York civil fraud trial. Notably, Habba proactively refers to Trump's adult children, including Don Jr. and Eric, as "kids" and "the boys," seemingly attempting to garner sympathy for them in the trial. Don Jr. is 45 years old and Eric is 39 and despite the fact that these individuals are older than Habba herself, she portrays them as unfairly targeted children. The strategy is clearly part of an effort to deflect attention from the ongoing trial, where Don Jr., Eric, and Ivanka have now testified. In a staged moment, Habba asserted she is "gagged" by a judge's order, raising concerns about the supposed silencing of Trump's defense. Critics argue that while Habba and Trump's legal team claim their side hasn't had a fair chance to present their story, the extensive media coverage and the opportunity for Trump to mount a defense contradict these assertions, suggesting a strategic attempt to manipulate public perception because they know they can’t succeed in court.
From over the weekend:
Is Joe Biden the most successful President of the last 50 years?
Less than three years into his administration, Joe Biden might be the most successful president of the last 50 years. This distinction would put him ahead of Republican presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan, the Bushes, and Trump as well as Democratic presidents Carter, Clinton, and Obama. Biden has had a number of accomplishments during his first term, including the American Rescue Plan, the Inflation Reduction Act, efforts in combating climate change, drug price negotiations, the Chips in Science Act, the PACT Act, and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Biden's international successes include rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement and the World Health Organization and he’s made useful executive actions on climate change, including revoking the Keystone XL pipeline permit. Judicial nominations, appointments, and various legislative measures, including gun control and Affordable Care Act expansion, also make for some noteworthy domestic achievements. Biden certainly has had his setbacks and his approval rating may not reflect it, but he’s arguably the best and most progressive president of many of our lifetimes.
From over the weekend:
George Santos still insisting he's Jewish
In a recent interview with CNN's Manu Raju, George Santos, the Republican congressman with a long track record of lying, once again claimed to be Jewish. Reporters have researched Santos's genealogy and have failed to find any documentation supporting Santos's Jewish heritage. Santos claims that this is due to the war in Ukraine making it difficult to get the paperwork, as this is where Santos claims his grandfather is from. Santos insists he never explicitly said he was Jewish, attributing it to jokes made in the past about being “Jew-ish.” Despite the lack of evidence, Santos vows to prove his Jewish ancestry, emphasizing his commitment to unveiling his family's history. He also mentioned obtaining documents from Brazil where his grandparents allegedly forged documents to blend in. The controversy persists, with no conclusive evidence presented to support Santos's assertion of being Jewish, and his track record pointing to this being yet another lie.
