Trump train derailment event goes horribly wrong
Donald Trump held an event in East Palestine, Ohio yesterday wherein he falsely claimed that the Biden administration intended to do nothing about the train derailment disaster. Trump stated that FEMA wasn’t going to do anything to help the community but changed their minds only when he announced he was paying a visit. The former president also took credit for bringing aid to the town, including “Trump Water,” which at this point simply appears to be different water bottles with his brand slapped onto the label. In an awkward moment, he mentioned there was also lesser quality water available. Also on brand, Trump handed out MAGA hats and McDonald's sandwiches. Clearly, the Trump campaign views the train derailment as a way to effectively argue against the Biden administration, but it’s a criticism that falls flat given how Trump decreased rail regulation during his time in office.
Cringe Trump grand jury member on bizarre press tour, might jeopardize indictment
Emily Kohrs, the former foreperson of the grand jury that investigated Donald Trump's attempts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia, is jeopardizing a potential indictment of the failed former president. Legal experts are concerned about Kohrs going on a strange media tour, giving cringe-worthy interviews, and speaking in a bizarre manner. Her demeanor and giddiness could give Trump's legal team ammunition to claim that a possible indictment is politically motivated. It’s also not totally clear Kohrs is allowed to be talking about the details she’s disclosing on national television. In her interviews, Kohrs stated that she wanted to subpoena Trump and that it would have been “cool” to swear him in. She also implied that Trump was not exonerated by the grand jury's partial report. The Georgia grand jury has not yet announced who it will indict, but hopefully, Kohrs’ antics will not affect the outcome.
From yesterday’s show:
Biden crushes autocrats in super strong speech
In a speech in Warsaw, Poland, President Joe Biden criticized autocrats and authoritarians, overtly referring to Vladimir Putin, but implying that the same criticisms apply to Donald Trump and the MAGA movement in the United States. Biden highlighted the importance of opposing autocracy wherever it is found, and described the struggle as being about freedom, which he claimed was at risk from the right. This is an excellent retort to Republicans who go around pretending that they are the party that supports liberty when in fact they want to get the state involved in a number of personal decisions. Biden made clear that the US, together with its allies, would continue to support Ukraine in its defense against Russia. Biden also made the point that the West is not plotting to attack Russia and that he understands millions of Russian citizens only want to live in peace with their neighbors and end the pointless war.
From yesterday’s show:
Biden's Ukraine visit broke right wingers' brains
Joe Biden paying a visit to Ukraine on the anniversary of the Russian invasion has really managed to break the minds of the American right wing. Many Republicans have been arguing it was wrong for Biden to go to Ukraine instead of East Palestine, Ohio, which is recovering from a recent train derailment. They also complained about the timing of Biden’s visit, which happened to be on Presidents’ Day weekend. Donald Trump Jr. even argued that the timing of the visit was particularly bad because Russia is to blame for recent train derailments, a claim that has been widely debunked. Ben Shapiro suggested that the air raid sirens in the background of Biden's visit to Ukraine were stage-managed, but the video of Biden’s speech suggests otherwise, and there was no need for anyone to panic. These right-wingers will find any reason at all to criticize Joe Biden, even if it makes them look foolish in the process.
