Trump lies uncontrollably, calls host "nasty" at outrageous CNN town hall
CNN hosted a town hall last night with failed former President Trump, hosted by Kaitlan Collins. There was plenty of concern going into the town hall, with many people questioning whether someone who attempted a coup and is facing multiple criminal charges should be treated like any normal presidential candidate. Despite CNN's attempts to control the situation, they were unprepared for the uncontrollable lies coming from Trump. At one point, Trump attacked Collins, calling her “a nasty person” and his supporters cheered. The conversation turned to the 2020 election and Trump continued to repeat debunked lies about voter fraud. Collins attempted to confront Trump with facts, but he ignored her and steamrolled his own narrative. The ex-president was asked about the civil suit that found him liable for the sexual abuse and defamation of writer E. Jean Carroll. He responded by not taking the allegations or the judgment seriously, and neither did the audience. Ultimately, the event was a disaster, and Trump's lies were allowed to continue largely unchecked.
George Santos manic in unhinged post-arrest press conference
Congressman George Santos was arrested this week on thirteen criminal counts and he responded to the charges by holding a bonkers press conference. Santos attempted to defend himself against the charges, claiming that they were part of a witch hunt and that he will fight to clear his name. He also referred to Joe Biden's family members receiving money from foreign destinations into their bank accounts, in a desperate attempt to deflect from his own issues. Santos vowed that he will not resign from Congress over the criminal charges, but Republican leadership has already withdrawn their support for his re-election effort. Santos even went so far as to say that in a couple of years, he will be chairman of a committee in the House, which made him sound completely delusional. Despite the serious nature of the charges against him, Santos claimed he is feeling fine and attempted to maintain a positive outlook throughout the press conference.

Tucker Carlson launching Twitter "show" after Fox News firing
Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson announced the relaunch of his show on Twitter. Carlson's announcement received nearly 20 million views, wherein he said, “Starting soon, we'll be bringing a new version of the show we've been doing for the last six and a half years to Twitter.” Carlson spent much of the video highlighting the issue of media manipulation, claiming that the news people consume is a “lie of the stealthiest and most insidious kind.” He argued that the media misleads people by withholding facts and manipulating perspectives to fit their agenda, even though this is exactly what he did during his program on a nightly basis. Carlson claimed that there are very few platforms left that allow free speech and that Twitter is the only big one remaining in the world. Elon Musk responded to Carlson's announcement, saying that they have not signed a deal of any kind, and that Carlson will be subject to the same rules and rewards of all content creators.
From yesterday’s show:
WOW: Inflation at lowest level in 2 years
New economic data has come out showing the United States has reached its lowest annual inflation level in two years. Although inflation has been very high, it has been gradually declining as predicted, and the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics reveals headline inflation rose 0.4% over the last month and 4.9% over the prior year in April. If we look at all the different indicators to answer the question, “Is the economy doing well by traditional measures?” we get a picture that is quite unremarkable, meaning that things are pretty much okay. GDP in Q4 of 2022 was up 2.6%, and in Q1 of this year, GDP was up 1.1%. The unemployment rate has been declining to historic lows, with much of this trend happening under President Joe Biden. The consumer confidence level is also historically at quite a high level. However, all of these positive indicators do not mean that there is no inequality or that wages are keeping up with inflation. It also doesn’t mean that because the economy is steady now, it will remain that way in the near or distant future.
