Jan 6 Committee Refers Trump for Criminal Prosecution
The House January 6th Committee has approved criminal referrals for former President Donald Trump and conservative attorney John Eastman for their roles in attempting to overturn the 2020 election. The committee has referred Trump and Eastman for possible violations of several criminal statutes, including obstructing an official proceeding of the US government, conspiring to defraud the US government, making false statements to the federal government, and inciting or aiding an insurrection. These referrals go to the Department of Justice for further investigation and potential prosecution. Some have expressed doubt and cynicism about the chances of Trump facing consequences, noting the unprecedented nature of charging a former American president. However, the committee's action marks a significant step in holding Trump accountable for his actions on January 6th, and maybe this will actually go somewhere.
Trump EXPLODES Over Criminal Referrals!
Donald Trump had an explosive reaction to the House January 6th Committee’s decision to refer him for criminal prosecution. The failed former president took to Truth Social and tried to put a positive spin on the situation. He said, “These folks don’t get it that when they come after me, people who love freedom rally around me. It strengthens me. What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.” Trump then tried claiming he was already exonerated of any possible charges having to do with the Capitol riots since he was acquitted by the Senate in his second impeachment trial. He wrote, “The Fake charges made by the highly partisan Unselect Committee of January 6th have already been submitted, prosecuted, and tried in the form of Impeachment Hoax # 2. I WON convincingly. Double Jeopardy anyone!” Of course, an impeachment proceeding is a political trial, and this referral has to do with what could become a criminal trial. There are no equivalency or “double jeopardy” concerns to be drawn from this whatsoever and surely Trump knows this.
From yesterday’s show:
Steve Bannon's Epic Meltdown Over Trump NFT Card Grift
Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon had a strong negative reaction to the launch of his former boss’s line of digital trading cards featuring Trump in various outfits and poses. Trump had announced the launch of the cards, called Trump Digital Trading Cards, with the promise of a major announcement, but the cards were seen as a frivolous and unimportant NFT grift. On his “War Room” program, Bannon called it a “disastrous idea” and said that whoever came up with it should be fired. Former Trump advisor Sebastian Gorka piled on saying it wasn’t Trump’s place to promote these: “if you want to do this kind of stuff, you know, have a pee-on do it.” There are also concerns about the potential for money laundering through the cards, as someone could potentially buy a large number of the cards with illicit funds or in excess of legal contribution limits and then sell them at a later date, potentially cleaning the money. Despite the negative reaction, the cards were claimed to have sold out, so maybe Trump would consider doing it all over again.
From yesterday’s show:
RIGHT WING WSJ: Republicans Too Stupid to Wield Power
The right-wing Wall Street Journal has published an op-ed arguing that Republicans, who will take control of the House in a few weeks, are too “dimwitted” to wield power effectively. The editorial board criticized the party's “division and disarray” and suggested that they are more focused on perpetuating anger and fear, rather than developing policy or a platform. The op-ed specifically mentioned the conflict within the party over the role of House Speaker, with some members demanding that Kevin McCarthy weaken the speakership position in order for him to secure enough votes to earn the gavel. The editorial board argues that this demand is “self-defeating” and that the party needs a leader who can enforce discipline in order to effectively govern. We’ve known about these issues within the Republican Party for a long time, but now even rank-and-file conservatives like those at the Wall Street Journal seem to finally be getting the message.

In regard to free speech, I was behind a customer at a grocery store the other evening and he made the remark "I love free speech, not much around these days. What about that?" I remarked " I hate that lies are being masqueraded as free speech these days. How about that? He shut up!
