Observational Associations are also known as two things happening, and when the two things are extremely common it is ALWAYS important to not see coincidence as causation.
They could have as easily made equivalent 'Observational Associations' between autism and the phases of the moon, the alignment of the stars, consumption by the pregnant lady of pickles and ice cream, ibuprofen, having gained weight during pregnancy, giving birth in a hospital...
We do not have a test for Autism of any level of severity on the 'spectrum' for an infant. They have to grow some before you start to figure out how different from 'normal' kids they are. There are a LOT of parents who panic at the idea of their kid being anything other than normal (What a dismal goal that is...) and of course, once discovered by these panickers, they are compelled to blame ANYONE other than themselves or their genetics, or almost as bad, sheer random chance.
Once upon a time such a kid would have been simply labeled 'smart' and distracted by their thinking. School kids would have called him/her a nerd, geek or similar and been the target of bullies, but most parents would not have freaked out over it or tried to blame vaccines or whatever flavor ice cream they ate when pregnant.
Trump of course is a bully, but so is RFK jr, in his ignorant process of labeling Autistic kids as something to avoid at all costs, as a terrifying 'condition' to be avoided at all costs. Most people these days just figure, "Oh, that kid is on the spectrum" which in their world means he will likely be a nerd which translates to 'Wizard' in this technological era.
Movies these days commonly include a 'nerd' character who acts as the team 'Tech Wizard' and plays an essential supporting or even main character role.
