Trump Dines With Anti-Semites: Screams at Kanye, Fawns Over Nick Fuentes
Donald Trump had dinner at Mar-a-Lago last week with known anti-Semites Kanye West and Nick Fuentes. The story is that West invited himself over to discuss his presidential campaign, and the rapper brought with him a small group of people that Trump claimed not to know. One of the people in the group was Nick Fuentes, a far-right conspiracy theorist who doesn’t try to hide his racist and antisemitic viewpoints. Trump was reportedly taken by Fuentes during the dinner, impressed with his right-wing fanaticism and political advice. In a bizarre move, West asked Trump to be his running mate during the dinner, even though Trump himself is running for president again in 2024. Trump got furious over the insulting request and told Kanye he was going to lose the race. Following the dinner, the Trump campaign was in damage control mode, desperate to explain how two toxic figures were allowed to have dinner with Trump at the former president’s residence.
Right-Wing Blames Club Q Victims, Assert Shooter is Non-Binary
Right-wingers have been responding abysmally to the Club Q shooting that happened earlier this month in Colorado Springs. Commentators like Tucker Carlson have been using it as an opportunity to fearmonger about gender-affirming care and to pretend that the shooting happened because the left wants to sexualize children. Daily Wire host Matt Walsh took a different approach, which was to blame the victims. He said, “why is it so important to you to cross-dress in front of children? Why is it so important? Why do you need to do it? Why? Is it worth the cost that you claim you’re paying for it?” Another way the right has been responding is by saying they can’t be responsible for stochastic terrorism because the alleged perpetrator now identifies as non-binary so this couldn’t possible by a right-wing hate crime. Of course, it’s not clear whether the shooter is genuine about this or if they’re doing it to help their defense and play into the right’s culture war narrative. Regardless, Carlson was eager to use this in his defense, making it seem like this tidbit absolves him of all responsibility as if there’s no way the shooter could be on the right.
From over the weekend:
OH NO: Trump Might Not Even Make it to PRIMARIES!
Keith Naughton, an opinion contributor for The Hill, argues in a new article that Donald Trump has a lot to be concerned with as he again tries to win the Republican Party nomination. Naughton points out that despite the fact Trump is the only candidate who has announced so far, he’s not enjoying a wide margin of support in the polls. The former president isn’t even scoring 50% against people who aren’t even declared candidates yet like Ron DeSantis. The counterpoint to this is that a similar situation happened in 2016 when Trump would register more support than any other candidate but not a majority. Ultimately, Trump was able to pull off the victory in the primary anyway in 2016 so he might be able to do it again in 2024. The next problem Naughton points out is that Trump has nothing new to offer and is just recycling his same old talking points. Finally, it’s unknown how possible charges against the former president could affect his support among a Republican electorate. This is shaping up to be a contentious GOP primary and it’s anyone’s guess as to who will come out ahead.
From over the weekend:
Marjorie Taylor Greene and Kari Lake FIGHTING to Be Trump's VP
Republican lunatics Marjorie Taylor Greene and Kari Lake are setting the stage for a possible showdown to determine who will be Donald Trump’s running mate in 2024. Greene said a few weeks ago that Republican governors should not try to run for higher office like president or vice president in ‘24 and instead should stay in their states and do the jobs they were elected to do. This was clearly Greene’s attempt to box out incumbent governors like Ron DeSantis and Kristi Noem and maybe even people who were at the time candidates for governor like Kari Lake. Lake is also making it abundantly clear that she is campaigning to become Trump’s running mate. She visited Mar-a-Lago and delivered a groveling speech about the failed former president and vowed to fight on despite being declared the loser in Arizona’s gubernatorial race. It doesn’t seem like Greene or Lake would bring in any new voters for Trump, but after the Mike Pence debacle, Trump seems to care more about loyalty in a VP pick than electability.
