Trump cornered, panics in deranged Fox News interview
During a Fox News interview with Bret Baier, Donald Trump faced a moment of confusion and panic when confronted with a question about his proposal for the death penalty for drug dealers. Baier brought up the case of Alice Johnson, a nonviolent drug offender whom Trump had pardoned during his presidency. Baier pointed out that under Trump's new criminal justice proposal, Johnson would be vulnerable to execution because she sold drugs. Trump appeared rattled and struggled to respond coherently, attempting to justify the severity of the punishment based on the severity of the crime. The incident highlighted the lack of coherence and policy principles in Trump's statements and proposals. While he touted his pardoning of nonviolent drug offenders like Johnson, he simultaneously advocated for executing drug dealers. The contradiction seemed to catch Trump off guard, revealing that his positions were driven more by applause lines and personal ego than by substantive policy analysis.
MTG calls Boebert a "little b!#ch" for copying her idea
Republican Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert became entangled in a highly publicized feud on the House floor this week. Despite sharing extreme right-wing ideologies, the two lawmakers apparently now hold personal animosity toward each other. The conflict intensified when Boebert introduced a resolution to impeach Joe Biden, which Greene perceived as copying her efforts to also remove the president from office. The feud reached a boiling point on the House floor, where Greene allegedly referred to Boebert as a “little bitch.” This tense exchange was partially captured on C-SPAN's cameras. While Democrats experience their fair share of disagreements, the level of discord and lack of professionalism demonstrated by these MAGA-aligned representatives is next level. This is especially because the feud seems to revolve around a struggle for attention and credit, rather than substantive policy issues.
From yesterday’s show:
Hunter Biden takes plea deal, how will MAGA react?
Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, has reached a tentative agreement with federal prosecutors regarding his tax and gun charges. The proposed deal involves pleading guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges for failing to pay taxes in 2017 and 2018, with a total liability of around $1.2 million. Hunter Biden's lawyer acknowledged his responsibility for these tax mistakes, which occurred during a period of turmoil and addiction in his life. The plea deal also addresses a gun charge stemming from a false statement he made while purchasing a firearm. Prosecutors will handle the gun charge as a diversion case, allowing Hunter to potentially avoid a guilty plea if he successfully completes the measures outlined in the diversion program. The agreement, subject to approval by a federal judge, is expected to give Hunter Biden probation and no jail time. This looks like a sensible outcome for this case, as the charges appear to be minor and not warranting imprisonment.
From yesterday’s show:
Republican candidates don't want to sign party loyalty pledge
Some Republican presidential candidates are questioning the loyalty pledge required to appear on the debate stage. The pledge states that candidates who participate in the Republican primary must promise to support the eventual nominee of the party. However, the situation is complicated by the potential legal troubles of former President Donald Trump, who might be a convicted felon by the time of the primary and general election. Candidates such as Chris Christie and Asa Hutchinson have expressed doubts about supporting a convicted felon, calling for adjustments to the pledge's terms. However, the Republican National Committee (RNC) has refused to make any changes. Christie has said he may not sign the pledge in earnest, which could potentially be used to disqualify from him the debate. Hutchinson said his word means a lot to him and he isn’t going to sign a pledge he doesn’t expect to honor. These approaches could hinder both candidates’ chances of winning the Republican nomination when they’re already long shots to begin with.
