Donald Trump held an Oval Office meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and lavished praise on the authoritarian leader. Despite Erdoğan’s record of jailing journalists and suppressing dissent, Trump called him “tough” and “amazing,” even joking about Erdoğan’s experience with “rigged elections.” This episode reflects Trump’s tendency to demean democratic allies while embracing authoritarian figures.
In a meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky, Trump postponed answering whether he trusts Vladimir Putin and gave conditional statements about NATO support. His apparent unawareness of Russian drone incursions in Denmark further underscores a presidency defined by contradictions and detachment from global affairs.
Republicans and pro-Trump media promoted a “triple sabotage” theory after an escalator stopped and his teleprompter malfunctioned during Trump’s UN visit. AP reporting showed a Trump staffer triggered the escalator and the White House controlled the teleprompter, yet Trump and allies framed the events as deliberate attacks, portraying him as a victim of conspiracies.
On Truth Social, Trump accused Democrats of promoting crime, open borders, and transgender policies, while attacking figures like Kamala Harris. He falsely claimed a 2024 “landslide” victory and revisited the UN sabotage narrative, reinforcing his self-image as a perpetual victim.
Public support for Trump is collapsing. Only 37% approve of his overall job performance, while 58% disapprove. Economic approval is even lower, with just 31% of independents satisfied. Widespread pessimism surrounds household finances and future economic conditions, reflecting deep public concern.

The escalator and teleprompter issues would not appear to be sabotage from all we know from the UN staff. Not sure where the audio issue could have occurred. Apparently the microphone worked as the interpreters could hear, but maybe the main speakers had been muted?
And rigged elections? Is Trump EVER going to shut up about that???
