Beto Explodes at Heckler: It's May Be Funny to You, Motherfu#&er
Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke unleashed on a heckler at a town hall event yesterday, calling the person a “motherf*cker” for laughing at gun violence. O’Rourke was talking about the need to regulate assault weapons in the context of the 21 people who were shot and killed in the Uvalde school massacre back in May. Beto mentioned that the original intention of the AR-15 was for the military to be able to pierce enemy helmets from a long range during the Vietnam War. Inexplicably, someone in the crowd burst out laughing. O’Rourke turned around and pointed in their direction, saying “it may be funny to you motherf*cker, but it’s not funny to me, okay?” This prompted the rest of the crowd to get on their feet and cheer. This visceral reaction from Beto is exactly what was needed in the moment and a recipe for how the left can better stress the urgency of dealing with these issues.
Trump Pleads the 5th 400 Times After Saying Only Guilty People Do It
Donald Trump pleaded his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination more than 400 times yesterday during his deposition in New York over potential financial infractions allegedly happening at his business. Attorney General Letitia James is looking into claims that the Trump Organization would over-valuate assets when trying to get loans and under-valuate them when having to pay taxes, a practice that’s against the law. Trump did everything he could to avoid being deposed in the probe, and once he could no longer put it off, he and his legal team believed the best course of action was to plead the fifth over and over again. Doing this should not be viewed as an indication of guilt necessarily, but the Donald Trump of old believed that it was. On the campaign trail in 2016, he would say that “the mob takes the fifth” and that “it’s disgraceful” that members of Hillary Clinton’s team were taking the fifth while under investigation. These statements are now coming back to bite Trump as he was put in a position of having to do it over and over again.
From yesterday’s show:
Inflation LOWER Than Expected, Wages Up
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) data came out yesterday for the month of July and showed that the year-over-year inflation rate declined to 8.5% from 9.1% in June. Markets soared on the news, as the decline suggests that inflation has hit its peak and over the coming months, we’ll be able to inch our way down to the Federal Reserve’s target of 2%. Many predicted that the July numbers would be down from the June highs, since gas prices have been going down steadily for many weeks now. This trend has continued into August, with the AAA national average for the price of a gallon of gasoline now at $3.99. By every indication, when the August CPI numbers get released in September, the read will be even lower, suggesting that the worst of the inflation crisis truly is behind us.
From yesterday’s show:
BREAKING: Trump Seeking Criminal Defense Lawyer After FBI Raid
Following the FBI raid of his home in Mar-a-Lago on Monday, Donald Trump is looking for a criminal defense lawyer to prepare for the event that he is charged with crimes. Trump has been asking people around him what they think about a number of attorneys. One person Trump and his team are considering is Tim Parlatore, who is best known for defending an accused war criminal and winning the case. Of course, Trump seeking a criminal defense attorney is not an indication of guilt and it actually makes sense for someone in his position to be doing it. However, the FBI raid and the subsequent moves by the former president go to show that there is a real chance he gets indicted, something not previously believed by too many people. Whomever Trump chooses as his lawyer better be ready to take up the case pro bono, however, since the ex-president has a long history of not paying people who work for him.
