Will Trump / Biden debate make ANY DIFFERENCE?
Tonight marks the first of two anticipated presidential debates, starting at 9 p.m. Eastern time, with a TDPS live pre-show at 7:30 p.m. The key question is whether this debate will impact the election outcome. Current national polls show Trump leading Biden by 1.5 points, with the Real Clear Politics average placing Trump at 46.6% and Biden at 45.1%. Including third-party candidates like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, and Jill Stein increases Trump's lead to 2.6 points. The FiveThirtyEight forecast is evenly split, with a 50-50 chance for either candidate to win based on current polling inputs. The debate presents significant risks for both candidates, particularly regarding their cognitive performance, with a major failure potentially impacting their chances severely. However, a significant slip-up by Trump may not sway his committed base, while a similar issue for Biden could be equally damaging. The debate's outcome and its effect on the race will be closely monitored in the coming weeks.
Will debate muting be Trump's kryptonite?
In tonight's debate, a key feature is the muting of candidates' microphones when it isn't their turn to speak. CNN explained this system, demonstrating how green lights indicate whether a microphone is on or off. If a candidate whose mic is off tries to interrupt, their voice will be faint and difficult to understand. However, this measure might not be as effective as hoped. Even with the mic muted, a candidate like Trump, known for frequent interruptions, can still create distractions through visual cues or by speaking louder and closer to his opponent’s podium. In the 2020 debates, Trump interrupted Biden over 150 times, suggesting that Biden's team should prepare for similar tactics and have strategies to counteract interruptions effectively. This preparation could involve highlighting Trump's interruptions as a sign of desperation or another method to regain control.
From yesterday’s show:
They want Biden drug tested for MOUNTAIN DEW
On Maria Bartiromo's Fox Business show, Republican Congressman Eric Burlison suggested that Joe Biden might use Mountain Dew as a performance-enhancing substance during debates, echoing claims by Congressman Ronny Jackson that Biden's team might experiment with medications to boost his energy. Burlison speculated that Biden, despite his age and potential dementia, could find moments of clarity and energy, possibly through caffeine from Mountain Dew. This idea is contrasted with reports of Donald Trump consuming 12 Diet Cokes daily, significantly exceeding the recommended caffeine intake. The notion of Biden relying on Mountain Dew is absurd, with no evidence supporting its effectiveness in enhancing debate performance, making the comparison to Trump's high caffeine consumption ironic and highlighting the baselessness of the stimulant use claims.
From yesterday’s show:
Trump CRUSHED by humiliating primary disasters
Recent primary elections showcased the diminishing influence of Donald Trump's endorsements, with several of his chosen candidates suffering significant defeats. In South Carolina, Trump-backed pastor Mark Burns lost to Sheri Biggs. Similarly, Trump-endorsed Dave Williams lost to Jeff Crank in Colorado's fifth congressional district, and Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs, also endorsed by Trump, was defeated by Congressman John Curtis in Utah. These losses indicate a decline in Trump's sway, potentially undermining his ambitions to control the House with a MAGA-aligned Congress. Trump is expected to blame the candidates for their failures, even though he would take credit if they won. Hopefully, the reduced power of Trump’s endorsements signal a loss for him in the 2024 election.
