Because something enormous happened in Washington, D.C. this week.
Donald Trump has federalized the city’s police force and deployed the National Guard, not to respond to a natural disaster, not to secure an international summit, but to consolidate his grip on the nation’s capital.
This isn’t just about “law and order.” It’s about control. The D.C. mayor and local officials now have less authority over their own streets than at any time in modern memory. The people who actually live there didn’t vote for this, didn’t ask for it, and can’t easily reverse it.
And that’s the point.
The move is being framed as a “security measure,” but the pattern is obvious:
Use state power to override local governance—and in this case, there is no state which opens up the loophole for federalization.
Deploy federal forces in politically sensitive areas.
Blur the lines between policing and political loyalty.
Make it harder for dissent to happen anywhere near the seat of federal power.
If this sounds extreme, it is—but it’s also familiar. We’ve seen versions of this before in other countries where leaders decided that the law was less important than their own security, and that protest was something to be stamped out rather than heard.
It’s another step in an administration that has already tried to push the bounds of executive authority at every turn. When critics, whistleblowers, or journalists become inconvenient, they aren’t just ignored—they’re targeted, pressured, and in some cases, silenced.
This is why independent media matters.
The David Pakman Show isn’t subject to the whims of corporate boards, FCC licenses, or billionaire owners. If the White House leans on a network, the network might fold. If they lean on us, there’s no corporate board to cave. We answer to you.
We’re reaching over 100 million people every month across YouTube, podcasts, Substack, and more. But algorithms change, platforms bend under pressure, and the only way we stay connected no matter what is here.
If you’ve ever thought, “I want someone to keep saying what needs to be said, no matter who’s in power,” that’s what we do. But we can’t keep doing it without your support.
We have two ways to support the show, by becoming a member through our website or by becoming a paid subscriber right here on Substack.
If you’re already paid on one platform, consider supporting us on both Substack and our website.
Feeling extra generous? Gift a subscription—we have thousands of people on our waiting list who are ready to join the fight.
Trump can federalize police, deploy troops, and push the limits of executive authority. But he can’t cancel what he doesn’t control.
Let’s keep building.

David, you know what I see watching everything in the States unfold from Canada? I see exactly how Hitler started off, trying to sooth and explain the reasons why his forces were present, why the Gestapo were being advanced - until the point where everyone woke up and saw that he now controlled fully. That is what is happening to you folks. My heart goes out to everyone in the US and I pray for us too because, guess where I live - Alberta! Scary times - our Premier is just a female version of Trump and, like in the states, about 51% follow her and 49% of us don't and our way of life is in jeopardy as well. Saving grace is that it is just one province. Not the whole country.
What David just broke down isn’t just about D.C. no it’s the blueprint.
Today it’s the capital, tomorrow it’s your city under the same “security” pretext.
They don’t even need your vote if they can rewrite the rules in plain sight and roll the tanks while calling it “order.”
That’s why independent media like this matters. When corporate news tiptoes around the truth or distracts you with noise, outlets like David’s say it straight : no billionaire boss, no corporate leash. It’s dangerous in the good way: one man with a bigger reach than Fox who can say whatever the hell needs saying.
And here’s the part most folks don’t think about: one voice can be targeted, hacked, deplatformed. But many voices? That’s an army. That’s why I back David, and why I built my own independent space at www.xplisset.com. This isn’t competition y’all it’s building a wall of truth they can’t bulldoze.
If you want to fight authoritarian creep, you’ve gotta feed the ecosystem that pushes back. Subscribe here. Subscribe to other truth-tellers. Share the work. Because if they can cancel one person, they can’t cancel all of us.
You, me, David, we’re the damn firewall baby. Let’s make damn sure it holds.
